Hi Mark, We have never worked with a Client by your name. However, your post is very similar to the only dissatisfied client we have had since we started the company back in 2006, and who it appears has since been posting negative reviews of my company under a variety of different screen names. Limited by character quota, it is to you I repost an edited version of our original response: We successfully met all the terms and conditions of our 2007 Agreement. We understand you are dissatisfied, and we wish you the best with your building project. Donna Merten, Founder, President and CEO of Merten, Inc. (formerly Merten Homes) Our July 2007 Letter of Agreement (“Agreement”) included the conversion and updates of the Clients’ existing set of architectural plans purchased from another organization. Our Agreement was to “finish the conversion and updates” to the C ...read more

We had an awful experience with this company. They made a few huge screw ups on our job, and then wouldn't even communicate with us after it was discovered. These were enormous oversights and then, rather than work to fix the obvious mistake, did everything to avoid dealing with it even though they know it's their responsibility. We can't afford to fix all the problems they caused and are stuck with a horrible mistake that affects the aesthetics, light, air flow of house, and even our health. Shame on Merten, Inc. We do NOT recommend them. It's one thing to make a mistake, it's another to not take any responsibility or even communicate with the customer. They were difficult to work with and are not nice. Even more strange - the architect never even came to our building site to see the land/view/etc before designing the house, even though we pleaded repeatedly for him to do so. We should have seen the warning signs then...but their pictures are so nice, we were fooled! ...read more

Save Electricity In Your Home With Air Duct And Vent CleaningOne thing to consider when you're thinking about vent and duct cleaning is the fact that your electricty costs increase as your indoor air quality is decreasing. This is due in part to the popularity of high-efficiency windows, doors, and increased insulation that reduce the amount of air transfer between inside and outside. Though these fixtures are great when it comes to reducing energy costs and making a room more comfortable, they are often not supplemented with any additional ventilation, causing pollutants that enter the home to remain inside instead of leaking out through drafty windows and gaps. This is why duct cleaning, maybe one of the least memorable tasks you have, is very important. There are two ways of duct and vent cleaning. One system is connected into the ducting to provide suction. A high-pressure air hose is passed through the ducting to remove the particles from the interior. The other system uses a large specialized vacuum attached to a hose and a brushing system that is run through the ducting. Both systems are effective when operated by properly trained personnel. The proper cleaning should include the following: cleaning of all registers, inside the ducting, and the interior of the heating and ventilating system. In addition, any exposed wiring and electrical components need to be cleaned too. Dust accumulation of wiring can lead to electrical shorts on the HVAC control board and the wires themselves. The furnace fan must be cleaned, and if you have air conditioning or a heat pump, the coils inside the system must also be thoroughly cleaned. Finally, a disinfectant can be fogged through the cleaned system to eliminate any mold, bacteria, and dust mites that might remain. Proper cleaning of a home should take a minimum of three to five hours, depending on the size of the house. If the home has more than one heating and cooling system, or the system is located on the roof, it can take longer. Most duct cleaning companies base their price upon square footage and/or the number of registers, systems, and levels to be cleaned and charge between $90 and $125 per hour to properly clean a duct system. If a much lower price is offered, a consumer needs to make sure that the price includes a thorough cleaning, including registers, the inside of the ductwork, and all the fans and coils. Charging extra for cleaning fans and coils is unreasonable because those steps are mandatory for having a properly cleaned system. Remember, a clean system cuts down on how hard your heating appliances will work and how much electricity they draw. A clean duct system will lead to a large electrical energy savings-------Our Service Areas : Boulder 80301. ENERGY STAR Lighting And Electronics Will Save You Money!Green building and sustainable home improvements are becoming more popular for several reasons. Instead of spending money on projects that will increase waste, those who opt for green home improvements are actually saving money in the long run! Sustainable home improvements are not just making a splash with the eco-friendly crowd: (Federal Tax Credits for Energy Efficiency)!!  The thrifty and even the trendy are now seeing the benefits that come with energy efficient appliances, projects, and retrofitting! If you are looking for some quick and easy ways to save energy at home, here are a few things to consider: Whilesolar panelsand geothermal heat pumps might be the green home improvements of choice for those with the funds to buy them, several smaller sustainable home improvements are possible using only the most minimal of investments. Quite possibly the cheapest and most effective green home improvement you can make is to replace all of your old light bulbs with Energy Star-qualified, fluorescent bulbs. The investment is small, and effort is minimal, but the results are astounding! If you were to replace every bulb in the house with one of these highly efficient bulbs, you'll use up to 75 percent less electrical energy and reduce the frequency of replacing them, as they last up to 10 times longer. While switching light bulbs might be the easiest of the easy sustainable home improvements, these other projects aren't far behind! Replace your showerheads and faucets with low-flow models to conserve water. Install ceiling fans to cool off living spaces without running an energy-hogging cooling system. If you are not that handy, it might be wise to hire an electrician to hang your ceiling fan. Also, it might be wise to fix your heating, cooling, and plumbing systems as soon as you notice a problem to save on both energy and utility bills! You should note that this is not in the realm of the home handyman. A qualified electrician is needed to do this kind of job. Another great green home improvement idea is purchasing energy efficient appliances when it comes time to replace. The government's Energy Star program makes spotting energy efficient appliances easy, and the Energy Star label can be found on devices of all sizes, from microwaves to hot water heaters! TheEnergy Star labelingdoes not stop with appliances either! Energy Star rated computer products, including desktop and notebook (or laptop) computers, game consoles, integrated computer systems, desktop-derivedservers, and workstations are expected to save consumers and businesses more than $1.8 billion in energy costs during the next five years! They could also prevent greenhouse gas emissions equal to the annual emissions of 2.7 million vehicles. See what a few small choices can do?! Again, solar panels and geothermal heat are two of the most championed and prized sustainable home components around, but they are far from the only eco-friendly things you can consider during a large remodel! Insulation is a huge factor in making a home more energy efficient. Better insulation means less heat transfer, and less heat transfer translates into less energy consumed to make your home comfortable, no matter the time of year or the region you live in. There are many very effective forms of insulation on the market, but cellulose insulation is truly one to pay attention to, as it can be made from recycled newspaper. Speaking of recycling, one of the mostsustainable home improvement practiceson the planet is taking materials that would otherwise be discarded and putting them to another use. Reclaimed lumber (harvested from condemned buildings rather from a forest), and salvaged fixtures can each be used in a new setting; some of these items are not only beautiful and structurally sound, but carry a history with them that will bring a sense of authenticity to a new remodel. Even brick pavers and chunks of concrete salvaged from road construction are now being used for residential driveways, walks, and landscaping. Using these materials in your remodeling project can sometimes save you money (good news for you!), but in every case, their use will waste less energy. That's great news for all of us! So, you see, as the homeowner, there is so much you can do by yourself and then there is so much more that can be accomplished by hiring aprofessional electrical contractor. -------Our Service Areas : Boulder 80301.
