Every pet seems to have an accident once in awhile. Unfortunately, we tend to make the accident an incident by doing the wrong things. Do not use over the counter soaps on urine stains or any chemical that has oxi as part of its name. The best first step is always to blot the stain with paper towels and remove as much of the pet urine as possible. This will reduce the chance of the urine getting into the carpet pad and sub floor. Keep an over the counter pet enzyme like Natures Miracle on hand and spray urine stains when the occur. Do not scrub out the enzyme, simply allow the enzyme a 24 hour period to dwell in the carpet and do its' job. If the stain is still there spray the urine stain again and give the enzyme another 24 hours to digest the urine stain. A few general rules and ideas will help you get started: 1) Introduce your new pet to the potty area as soon as you arrive at your home. 2) Use your happiest voice when encouraging and praising your new pet for good behavior. 3) Do not make a big deal for poor behavior, simply correct the behavior and move on. If the pet chews on your shoe remove the shoe and give the dog a chew toy. Once they use the chew toy, praise them. 4) Make the pets world smaller by confining the ammount of space that they have access to. Pen the pet when not arround and crate them at night. 5) Limit the amount of time solid food is out and time your dogs potty habits so that you can take your pet to its' designated potty area on time.
