The Dryer's Transition Vent

Your dryer vent is important to have cleaned.  We know this.  It is also important to discuss the length of venting, called the transition ducting. This ducting runs from your dryer and attaches to the vent extending out from the wall. This vent gets fairly hot and if not carefully installed could cause problems with the dryer.  The following graphic shows the right and wrong way this should be installed. If your dryer vent when looking behind your dryer looks like the don't, it needs to be changed. What does it matter?  It matters a lot, in concerns with air flow.  Your dryer vent needs an airflow that goes as straight as possible from your dryer to the exterior of your building.  It also can also enable the vents o clog easier. It is recommended that the dryer duct work be made of semi rigid to a rigid material made of aluminum material and should be UL approved.  Two types of venting materials that you should avoid are plastic and the and non UL approved flex metal.  Both of these are flammable and are not recommended. So take what you want from this blog.  Though, I hope it helps. ...read more

Dryer Vent Inspection

If you think that your dryer is broken, it could be, but it also could be the vent is clogged with lint.  I have been called numerous times from homeowners stating that their technician found nothing wrong with dryer but the dryer vent was the issue. If the dryer vent is clogged with lint, it will make the motor run harder.  A lot of dryers have safety switches on that will turn the dryer off, pretty quickly, within 5 minutes or so if the dryer gets to hot.   If the vent is clogged there is no where for the heat to go.  It will stay inside the dryer and cause problems So here are a few signs of a clogged dryer vent. 1. The top of the dryer is hot to the touch.  2.  It takes more than 45 dry a load of laundry. 3.  If you go to the exterior of your house and the vent is reachable, put your hand over it, while the dryer is       running,  if you feel very little air flow or no air flow your vent is clogged. Remember a dryer that can breathe is a dryer that is happy. ...read more
