Jason Gretsch the owner is a very poor business person. First they took control of my computer remotely and made it worse. They then told me to bring the unit to their shop for repairs. When I arrived during normal business hours they were closed. When I returned later I spoke to Jason who told me he had problems with employees leaving early. Jason is rarely at the business. So I left my computer which they told me would be a 2 day repair, 5 days later I picked up my computer with an extra charge which was not discussed on my bill. Further they installed Malware and refused to remove it. When I discussed this with Jason he informed me that his walk-in business is not important to him and it represents less than 10% of his business. As if we hadn’t seen enough of the malware fake virus infections that report on our “hundreds” of infections and offer a solution at just $79.99 from an offshore website; now they get more creative.The latest from our creative friends hide all your file and programs, offering simply a web browser that goes to a single site (theirs) and nothing more. You have no desktop icons, no other programs, and none of your documents and photos. You do get an alarmingly realistic looking display showing that you have hard disk errors and are at risk of losing everything. No messages about infections, just the long list of physical or logic errors. And of course their paid solution. Even the most novice of clients normally knows you can not buy a software solution to a failing hard disk — but by now the panic has set in. So with no desktop, no personal files, and an ominous warning what’s the clue it’s malware? You can’t access MSConfig or Task Manager, but the network is flawless.Hmmm. The hard disk is toast, but the site for their solution works fine? I don’t know the origin of the infection — and even those I would consider low risk users have been getting it — but it’s been the most common one I’ve seen over the the last six weeks. I’ve averaged two a week even with my modest client base. The first day I found it I actually had three calls with the same symptoms. The good news is safe mode always works. Safe mode with networking even allows browsing other sites. In many cases simply running theMalwareBytesquick scan has resolved the issue. In a few cases the solution wasCombofix(use caution with this solution, there are a number of factors to consider). Unfortunately I have yet to see any of the antivirus standard installations recognize it or wipe it out. The clients infected so far were using McAfee, Avast, and Norton. In addition to installing security and antivirus products, we recommend that you follow these simple, common-sense precautions to reduce your exposure and protect your system. Do not open e-mail attachments from an unknown, suspicious, or untrustworthy source.If you're not familiar with the sender, do not open, download, or execute any files or e-mail attachments. Do not open an e-mail attachment unless you know what it is, even if it appears to come from a friend or someone you know. Some viruses replicate themselves and spread via e-mail. Stay on the safe side and confirm that the attachment was sent from a trusted source before you open it. Do not open any e-mail attachments if the subject line is questionable.If you feel that the attachment may be important to you, always save the file to your hard drive before you open it. Delete chain e-mails and other spam from your inbox.It's best not to forward or reply to messages like these. Unsolicited, intrusive mail clogs up networks, may contain annoying or offensive content, and may result in security and privacy risks. Exercise caution when downloading files from the Internet.Make sure that the Web site is legitimate and reputable. Verify that an anti-virus program has checked the files on the download site. If you have any doubts, don't download the file at all.  If you download software from the Internet, be especially vigilant of free software, which often carries adware or other potentially unwanted content along with it. Always read the privacy policies and end-user license agreements (EULAs) for software you install, regardless of the source. If you happen to receive an e-mail message announcing that your account will be closed, that you need to confirm an order, or that you need to verify your billing information, do not reply to the e-mail or click on any links. If you want to find out whether the e-mail is legitimate, you can contact the company or individual directly by calling or writing to them. Do not open messages or click on links from unknown users in your instant messaging program. Instant messaging can be a vehicle for transmitting viruses and other malicious code, and it’s another means of initiating phishing scams. Use a personal firewall.  A hardware firewall that sits between your DSL router or cable modem will protect you from inbound attacks. It’s a must for broadband connections. A software firewall runs on your PC and can protect you from both inbound and outbound attacks. Check your accounts and credit reports regularly.  Identity thieves can begin using your personal information to open accounts, purchase goods, and make your life miserable within minutes of obtaining that data. Check your bank account and credit card statements frequently. That way, if you discover that your personal information has been compromised, you can alert credit companies and banks immediately, so they can close your accounts. Fake UPS or FedEx Email Messages with Virus Attached.

The newest virus circulating is the 'UPS Delivery Failure'. You will receive an email from UPS Packet Service along with a packet number. It will say that they were un-able to deliver a package sent to you on such and such a date. It then asks you to print out the invoice copy attached.  While the attachment may look like a Microsoft Word document, it is actually an executable file containing a virus.  Since the fake UPS messages started in July, there have been some sent with the exact same message mentioning FedEx.
