As a Plastic Surgeon and an ex-fashion model keeping my appearance is crucial for my business career. That is why when I was referred to see Dr. Chaves DDS it came from multiple fellow practitioners also in the cosmetic industry and their family members. It is because of the overwhelming number of resounding of referrals that I made an appointment and took the first step in the most wonderful series of dental experiences and results that I have ever had and continue to have. I am now the person who refers others to Dr. Chaves. ...read more

Arnold Balber DDS

I had been to doctor Balber one morning in Aug 2010 to get a root canal treatment after having sleepless night from a tootache. In contrast to what some people might say about the staff, I had a not-so-pleasant experience here.\t\n\t\nAfter being not able to sleep all night, I started calling up dentists in my area to see who would be available and accepting new patients. Dr. Balber was "referred" to me by a friend who happens to be a regular there for the last 6 years. Around 6am Diane from Dr.Balber's office responded to my voice-mail, telling me that Monday mornings are slow and the dentist should be able to see me at around 8am. When I got here I was the only patient there for about 20 mins, while I was filling my health forms, and one of the assistants in the back was on phone with my insurance company to make sure I indeed have insurance. (Obviously, they wouldn't have given me treatment or made me pay the fees upfront if I didn't) Until this point there were no questions asked about my insurance and no one at the office bothered to tell me that they accept only PPO insurance, while I was on HMO. After 20 mins they returned my insurance card and asked me to come in for x-rays, so I had assumed everything should have been ok. This was the first sitting where they also explained me that charges for my root canal (approx 500-600 out of pocket while insurance covers the rest). \t\n\t\nI have 3 more sittings after this in the next week and I paid around $500 in all. On the last day, they also tried to sign me up for deep cleaning, but I declined saying I would wait till the end of my year (to make sure I don't exceed dental coverage). After this I didn't hear from them for a while, so I called them up in Oct and left them a voice-mail to see if there were still any pending charges. Diane called back saying we are still waiting for your insurance company to make a payment. \t\n\t\nThree months passed and in Jan 11, I received a bill for 1692$ (in addition to the paid $500). When I called them up, Diane said my insurance declined to cover and I will have to pay them out of pocket. At this point Diane is telling me that we had tried to verify your insurance the first morning but couldn't reach them. If that was the case on the first morning, I am not sure why it wasn't done later before my 2nd, 3rd or the 4th sitting? \t\n\t\nWhen asked why I wasn't informed about it before the treatment started, she argued with me saying she did and "its my word against her word". Now why would someone, inspite of knowing that the treatment is not covered would still want to take the treatment and pay $2200 out of pocket? \t\n\t\nNot sure what to do, I tried calling them again later in the day to see if I could get some discount when I was transferred to speak to the "office manager" Yesenia. This was the first time I ever spoke to Yesenia. She sounded like some collection agent telling me that I have to pay every $ I owe for the treatment. Yesenia also made me realize about my "condition" where I "forget things that are being told to me when I am in too much pain." At this point I realized that there was no point in talking further. It was obvious they were trying to hide their incompetence by saying that they had done their job to their best and it was my fault for taking the treatment. I realize I should have checked with my insurance company too (so I had to pay for it), but hey, it was 5am and he was referred by a friend. A little help from his staff would have saved me $$$$\t\n\t\nI made two payments towards the pending bill, so I am all done with this dentist! Hope none of you are made to fall the same situation I was in.\t\n\t\nP.S: ****** PPO ONLY ****** ...read more
