Bed Sore - The Ugly Truth!

Pressure sore is the injured skin and tissue caused by sitting or lying in one position for too long. When there's enough pressure on certain parts of the body it reduces the blood supply to the skin and the tissues underneath it and a sore is formed.  The person can get other complications than the pressure sore and as severe as dying. Good practice and proper care standards need to follow to prevent any pressure sore. One sure practice is to follow the doctor's order. The resident needs to reposition (or turning in the bed/wheelchair) every so often. Treatment may work differently with each senior so if the condition deteriorated the doctor needs to be aware. Sometimes, registered nurses may make frequent visits to see how the treatment is working for the senior. Although Arcadia is a non medical facility, our caregivers proactively monitor, document and contact the doctor and the resident of any progress or change in condition.  We physically look for signs or symptoms, condition of the wound and document steps taken to prevent or heal. Simple steps such as frequent changing of bedding, keep the skin clean, use of breathable clothing can aid in the comfort of our residents. All postings are opinion of the facility and should not be treated as medical advise. Please always consult with your doctor or medical professional. ...read more
