Classic Looks Skin Care

I have always gone to Linda at Classic Looks for special occasions but now I am going to make it a monthly visit at the very least. She is Conejo Valley's best kept secret. Reasonably priced and immaculate. I had gone through a stressful event and soon found myself not wanting to leave the house when I had a breakout with more than 35 blemishes. Linda managed to get me in within days and I asked when I would see improvement with the facial and the products. She said between two to three weeks but after one week my skin was completely clear! I LOVE the collagen serum and the gel lotion! Linda also gives an excellent brow and chin wax. She takes her time to listen to you and your concerns and needs ...read more

I had a toothache for days, and when I went to my old dentist, he said that insurance wouldn't cover it! A friend recommended Dr. Shawn, and I'm really glad they did. My insurance covered everything, it was totally painless, and I felt completely at ease the whole time. Two big thumbs up! ...read more

Rem Sleep Labs

My dad went to REM sleep labs because he snored CONSTANTLY. We were all so sick of it and we actually became worried about him because he stopped breathing in his sleep sometimes. He went a few weeks ago and found out he found Sleep Apnea, and they helped him get the treatment that he needed. He's now sleeping a lot better so he isn't as grouchy anymore, which makes my dad much more pleasant to be around :) I'm just happy he found REM Sleep Labs and was able to get the tests he needed. ...read more

Assisted Home Hospice

By Thousand Oaks Resident

This provider is very unprofessional. They showed up at our home without an appointment and then asked us to sign documents that were in conflict with insurance contracts they hold. They collect co-payments up front that they know will never be owed by the patient. Then, they keep the money as "collateral" against what the insurance owes. The visits are short and have almost no value. The billing department consists of one, arrogant, person whose main goal is to collect and keep as much money has he can. "Physical Therapy" consists of handwritten lists of excercises. This information could be provided in a handout without the $200.00 visit charge for 20 minutes of chatting. ...read more

Children's Mental Health Diagnostic Treatment Service

Hi Everyone, I've never done this before and ironically I have a hard time talking about myself.  I am currently the Director of Treatment Services at Children's Mental Health Diagnostic Treatment Services.  I over see treatment along with providing treatment to those in need.  In our country we have attached a stigma to those who seek therapy.  It has become the equivalent of back alley abortions before Roe v Wade.  We are here to remove that stigma, as everyone at sometime in their life needs more help than our family and friends can give.  All of us love what we do and are passionate about our work.  So here is the part about me.  I am the mother of three children, 1 boy and two girls.  I have had more than my fair share of difficulties which I believe adds a richness to what I offer in therapy.  I wouldn't be where I am today with out the help I received from others; however, I also know I wouldn't have been able to do it had I not had the will and drive to succeed.  This holds true in therapy, as well.  Our lives have become complicated with "stuff" and acquiring that "stuff."  What do we do once that has been accomplished?  Are we happy?  Does our life suddenly have meaning?  Do we want meaning in our life?  What makes you happy and do you know?  This is one of the things we explore in therapy.  Sometimes when we don't have the breathing room to look clearly at our life we are unable to see the forest for the trees. “I have frequently seen people become neurotic when they content themselves with inadequate or wrong answers to the questions of life. They seek position, marriage, reputation, outward success of money, and remain unhappy and neurotic even when they have attained what they were seeking. Such people are usually confined within too narrow a spiritual horizon. Their life has not sufficient content, sufficient meaning. If they are enabled to develop into more spacious personalities, the neurosis generally disappears.” ― C.G. Jung -kmc- ...read more

Mental Health and Counseling Services

Children’s Mental Health Diagnostic and Treatment Services of Ventura County, Inc. was formed to address the problematic state of mental health services in Ventura County.  Over the years, there has been an increasing lack of organizations able to and/or willing to provide comprehensive, focused mental health services, especially diagnostics, for children and their families in a format that many of the residents of the county need, which is in the client’s home or at alternative sites such as, schools, camps, group homes, foster homes, and Residential Treatment Centers (RTC) or any other appropriate setting such as a visitation room at Children Family Services (Child Protective Services). ...read more

Pilates Mat Training: Give It 8 Weeks and See the Results

Pilates students and instructors say regular Pilates training gives them better posture, increased flexibility tighter stomach muscles and overall muscle definition. But despite the explosion in popularity of Pilates in recent years, there is still little scientific information about its actual physiological benefits. For example, does Pilates help people burn fat? Does it provide any real benefits to the average, non-athletic adult? YES! Mat training improved body composition, flexibility and endurance A new study by Kate Rogers, MS in Exercise Science from Barry University (Miami Shore, Florida) gives us some badly needed factual information about the effects of basic mat training. Rogers shows that eight weeks of traditional mat training improved three areas of physical fitness: body composition, flexibility and muscular endurance. The study looks at beginner Pilates students who attended the majority of hour-long mat classes held three days a week over a period of eight weeks. All results from the Pilates group were compared to a normally active group similar in age and demographics. There were significant decreases in waist, chest and upper arm circumference There was no difference in groups at the start of the study. The Pilates students, on average, lost 1.2% body fat as tested by 3-site skinfold thickness assessment, and no change in diet was required. Significant changes in waist, chest, and upper arm circumference were found in the Pilates group. So were significant changes in upper and lower body flexibility tested by shoulder reach and sit-and-reach. Interestingly, there was a greater change in upper body flexibility (shoulders) than at the hip. Muscular endurance of the abdominals and lower back were greatly improved. Abdominal muscular endurance was measured by curl-up test, and lower back muscular endurance was evaluated through a low back Ab extension test. No significant changes in any of these variables were noted.Increased muscular endurance is the largest improvement Overall, the study shows that doing eight weeks of traditional mat Pilates with beginner and intermediate exercises significantly enhanced three areas of fitness, with increased muscular endurance being the largest improvement. The results show that practitioners taking traditional mat Pilates classes can reasonably expect to expect improvements in their body composition, flexibility and core muscular endurance after at least eight weeks of training – ideal for the client who is looking to get the most bang for their buck out of their workout.
