I hired Goldstein SEO & PR Services to manage my internet marketing campaign and to provide business consultation services. During the 18 months we've been with them, they've gotten 13 articles written about our business in newspapers, magazines and trade journals, and my business was chosen as the "Best Antique Mall" in southern California by three different newspapers. Our business has increased substantially and I highly recommend them. Granny's Attic and Antique Mall, Temecula, CA ...read more

Celestial Content Services Now Offers Short Video Promos

Celestial Content Services LLC, a company that offers custom website content writing services, recently added limited video content services to the mix. As an Animoto Pro Reseller, Celestial Content Services has access to a variety of exclusive Animoto Pro themes and a vast collection of royalty-free music. As a result, the company now creates short promotional videos for clients who'd rather skip the monthly expense and learning curve of Animoto Pro membership. What is Animoto? It's an application that blends photos, video clips, text, and music to create a unique video presentation - much like a movie trailer. While Animoto offers a free account, it's for personal, not commercial use. The length, music options, and theme choices of free Animoto videos are limited as well. Animoto's Pro account is suitable for businesses that want to create commercial videos for themselves or for consumers, but it requires a yearly or monthly subscription. Celestial Content Services opted for the Pro Reseller account which allows for reselling Animoto videos to business customers. According to Celestial Content Services, videos are available in standard and high definition formats. Using the Animoto Pro application, the videos are created by uploading a series of photos and short video clips. From there, text and royalty-free music can be added. Get Online with a Free Website Courtesy of Google

Did you know that 62 percent of small businesses in California do not have a website? Meanwhile, 97 percent of Internet users search the Internet for local businesses. If you're one of those small business owners who haven't made the plunge, now's a great time to get started. Google will even foot the bill thanks to a unique partnership with Intuit.  The offer: A free 3-page, template-based website from Intuit. Simply choose your business type and pick from a selection of attractive templates.   A free domain name (ie YourBusinessName.com) for one year.   Free hosting for one year.   Free online tools and training.   While a 3-page website is fairly limited, it's better than nothing – and you can purchase additional pages if desired. Learn more at http://www.gybo.com/california/index. What's missing from the offer? Website content. You'll be responsible for filling your three pages with relevant copy about your business. If you're a capable writer, this could be a do-it-yourself project. If not, consider hiring a website content writer.  ...read more

Website Content Tips: Use Plain English

Plain English. It seems so plain, perhaps even boring. But it's not. Using plain English is helpful to your readers and to your website's long-term success. Fancy Words Often Fail My website uses a WordPress theme that is generally easy to use. Like most WordPress themes, this one has numerous widgets. The other day I stumbled onto one of the theme's shortcomings: it doesn't always use plain English. For example, most themes have some sort of "footer" widget. This theme does too, but finding it was an exercise in frustration. It took a great bit of fiddling and time on the developer's website scouring its FAQs and forum sections before I found the answer. The footer widget is named the "Colophon Widget." I don't know about you, but the word colophon is meaningless to me.  According to the Encarta Dictionary, a colophon is: Publishers emblem on a book – the symbol or emblem that is printed on a book and represents a publisher or publisher's imprint.   Publication details in books – the details of the title, printer, publisher, and publication date given at the end of a book. Colophons are commonly found in early printed books and in modern private press editions.   The term is also used in CSS programming in relation to footers.   Okay, now I get it. Since most websites put their company details and copyright information in the footer, the word colophon sort of works for naming the widget. It's intellectual. It ties into the publishing industry. It ties into programming. And, it's kind of cool for those in the know. But it doesn't work from a usability standpoint. Had the developer simply used plain English and called the footer widget a footer widget, users wouldn't have to dig through dozens of forum threads or consult their dictionaries in order to add a footer to their websites. Plain English and Content Writing The same is true of writing website content. Whether your audience consists of high school dropouts or Ivy League-educated business professionals, using plain English improves the user-friendliness of your website content. It also makes your site more search engine friendly because how many people do you know who use words like colophon? Use these tips for easy-to-read website content: Avoid jargon unless your target audience is fluent in its use (and even then, reconsider)   Use acronyms sparingly, and only after identifying them   Replace fancy words with common words   Use short sentences   Plain English isn't plain. It's descriptive and it communicates your message. What are your thoughts?  ...read more
