Many people have a misconception about car conversions. It is believed that you can apply the same concept as in building or remodeling a house This is really not TRUE! The reality is the a car builder has to consider the movement and climate conditions that a car goes through on a day to day. Lets take a Van Conversion... The interior of a van conversion is designed and built using fiber glass, plastic, or weather treated woods. These materials either handle the extreme climates or they are treated to do so. When the wrong materials are used for the interior of a vehicle, with time the materials may warp, rapidly wear, or crack making the car look not pretty. Fabrics, Carpet, and Vinyls- Very important to use automotive or marine materials to avoid wearing and cracking. Paints- Use car paint materialsfor prep, paint, and finish when painting any wood pieces in the car. Metals should be protected with a rust proof finish before covering up. Floors should be glued down and sealed with automotive sealants. Window Coverings should be rated for vehicle or marine use. Electrical Systems, Audio and TV Systems should be rated for vehicle or marine use. No matter what what you are building or modifying, always read the material specs and when in doubt consult with a professional for advice.
