Every time I meet with an existing business owner it's the same old story. "my rep lied about the rates!", "they told me one rate and when my statement came it was much higher" and so on and so fourth. Unfortunatly this is happening throughout the credit card processing industry because there are too many sales people out there who are simply afaid to be honest with their prospective merchants. This is a very competitive industry where most of the time each sales rep knows that they are up against a few different competitors. That being said, when they are going over the costs involved with having a merchant account they seem to forget to mention a lot of misc. fees such as Mid Qualified rate, Non Qualified rate, Monthly minimums, batch fees, statement fee, etc. By forgetting to mention these fees the merchant feels this is the "best deal" and chooses to go with them. Thirty days later the merchant gets his or her first statement only to be unpleasantly suprised by all these other fees that some how seemed to slip the mind of their sales rep while giving them this "incredible deal". Truth be told. In this industry, if it sounds too good to be true it usually is. So here is a big heads up to all merchants looking for the "best deal". Don't choose a merchant service provider based on how great the deal seems to be, but choose one based on how interested they are in your business and how much they want you to understand how this confusing process truly works. Choose one that is not afaid to give you the cold hard truth about all the rates and fees. I'm not saying choose the one with the highest rates and fees but realize that there is a lot more to a merchant account than 1.59% and a statement fee, so make sure they are honest and fourth right with you.
