As "adult child care giver" I was able to keep my mother in her home of 40 years for as long as possible, but her diagnosed dementia condition worsened. I did a lot of research online, talked to others in the same situation, and visited several facilities for more advanced care than my family could give. Sunshine Villa turned out to be my choice. Mother's condition does require more intense care, and this has so far been excellent. The staff and management have been extremely helpful and supportive. Not only that but the place is very attractive and is in a prime location with ocean views. This is a great morale booster for mom. As a sidelight I have real estate experience, and I combed through the place the way I would a high end property being put on the market. The place is meticulously maintained. In fact I'd call it fanatic. If you visit the place, see for yourself. I've eaten there a lot in the gorgeous dining room and have enjoyed all my meals. Like eating at a big city fine restaurant in some ways. My family and friends visit my mother a lot, and they tell me I made the right decision. This has made me look good. My mother's dementia condition is in decline, but we all get some peace of mind knowing that the situation seems to be handled as best it possibly could have been. ...read more

I am so angry with this facility. We came for a visit and made arrangements for my Mother to visit and be evaluated, exchanging doctor reports, only to find out now they won't take her at all. I had prepared my Mother for the visit and the move and made arrangements with her current facility, all to no avail. They don't know what they are doing. The right hand doesn't know what the left hand is doing. Good luck with this bunch!!! ...read more

My Mom lived at Sunshine Villa from the year they opened- 1991 to 2007. She was obviously one of the longest time residents of the facility, so we saw many ups and downs over the years. There were moments of brilliance where there were good managers and nurses. But for the most part they were changing staff and management constantly. I know it's not an easy industry in terms of finding employees, and keeping them. But when her health got worse, and she had to be moved to full time nursing, I saw a huge difference. Her new facility in Saratoga is run so much better. The staff rarely changes, and the communication is superior. It doesn't have a view of the ocean, but the grounds are very nice! And my Mom says the food is superior, which is important. It's Saratoga Retirement Community, if you're looking for a better alternative. It offers Assisted Living, and Skilled Nursing, as well as independent living with condos and single family homes. ...read more
