Thursday morning and I boot my computer up and have a black screen!!! I managed to restore back 2 weeks but lost ALL MY DOCUMENTS!!!!! I near had a heart attack. I called Nerds to the Rescue and within an hour a tech named Charlie came to my house in and in no time flat, all my files were back!!!!! He took the time to explain what had happened and how to avoid future problems. He treated me with the utmost respect instead of somebody that does not understand all the insides of a computer. If you have a problem, you could not make a better choice than to call Nerds to the Rescue....you will not be sorry...you will be thrillled! Thank you guys! ...read more

Macntosh Mechanic

I took my G5 computer to the Macmechanic because the light on the off-and-on button would not turn off when pressed and the computer would not boot up..\t\n\t\n"It will cost $55 for our technician to find the problem. He will call you and let you know what kind of repairs are needed. " I was told by a person at the front counter.\t\n\t\nThe technician called the Next day and said, "I have bad news for you. The computer has a bad logic board and it may have many other things wrong with it. A logic board cost about $700 dollars and the cost of installing it hundreds more. You should buy a new, or a reconditioned, computer from us instead."\t\n\t\n"How do you know that it has a bad logic board? What tests did you do on the computer?" I asked. Now his replies became very vague. He had not really been able to test the computer because he could not turn it on and off. I then asked him if he was going to charge me $55 dollars for just taking a look at my computer? He replied that it cost money just to have the computer take up space on their shelves and he had done a lot of work on the computer. He then recommended that I authorize him to back up the hard drive for another $55 and get rid of the machine.\t\n\t\nWhen I came to the store to pick up the computer, I spoke to the technician again. He showed me several new computers in the store. Then he surprised me by asking me what I was going to do with my computer. "I will take it home," I said and someone in the store commented, "And use it as a doorstop."\t\n\t\nAs I drove away from the Macmechanic with my doorstop, I remembered that my experiences with this store was similar what I had read in a previous review on this web site. The reviewer had taken his "worthless computer' to Sammy's and had it fixed at little expense. Hence, I stopped at Sammy's and told Nacho Loza, Apple Certified Desktop and Laptop Technician, about my problem. He asked me to look around the store for a few minutes while he examined the computer. Ten minutes later he called me and said the problem was fixed at no charge. The moral of my tale is: Beware that a Macmechanic does not turn your computer into a doorstop. ...read more

This company advertises that they do NOT charge you if they don't fix the problem, with a promise that they don't charge by the hour, but by the job. I had a tech come to my office to fix 3 problems. He spent an hour but was only able to fix one of them (which was the easiest to resolve), yet I was charged for a full hour's labor despite the fact that two of my three issues remained unresolved. Very fraudulent advertising indeed. I would avoid this company at all costs ...read more

Save Money

I have found though 25 years of selling Computers, that most people buying a computer 90%, don't use 15% of what a computer can do to make their live easier. They have to have the latest, fastest, coolest and cheapest computer they can get.  Of course cheapest usually does not get them what they WANT, but for the majority of people a used Pentium IV with a big Hardisk and CD burner with a Gig of ram, and USB support is all they need.  Computer Pro/MacSource specializes in upgrading these Pentium IV's and has lots of them running Windows 7 upgrade from XP. They range in price from $199 to $299 and come with Anti Virus, Adobe Reader and Open office installed. They have parallel and USB ports so your old printer will work.  My point is why pay $599 to $899 for a computer that will be obsolete 30 days after you take it home. For the difference in price, you could have an old one fixed 3 or 4 times and if it should fail completely you still get a second one for less than if you originally bought a new one. Don't get me wrong, we sell new ones and lots of them, I am just giving you my observations from 25 years of doing this job. If you don't want to save money and have very few problems, get a Mac with Apple Care. We sell it all. Henry Duncan Owner ComputerPro/MacSource ...read more
