I highly recommend anyone interested in visual art to visit Gallery Azul at 8th Street and Pacific Avenue in San Pedro. Staring now (September '08), in celebration of Hispanic Heritage month Gallery Azul is featuring Semi-cubist, expressionistic, Mexican artist Arturo Sandoval. Arturo was born in Jalisco, Mexico, and was trained in commercial art, painting, and sculpture at Guadalajara's School de Artes Plasticas. Sandoval's art is striking and poignant. To quote from the Gallery Azul website: " It expresses passion, narrative, and social criticism. His style is reminiscent of Siqueiros, Tamayo, Picasso, Orozco and Rivera; and it is laced with influences of the Mexican indigenious culture, heritage. Gallery Azul is celebrating Women's Heritage month by having artists create an original piece which pays tribute or represents inspiring women who have exhibited the courage and determination to reach beyond the ordinary and expected, often braving insurmountable sexual and political tyrannies in the process. Women represented have had or have in common the passion and drive, the insight and endurance, to make deep and lasting contributions in their respective fields.  Art work focuses on breaking tradition and gender roles, and as a reminder of the often forgotten  female.
