Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints

This family friendly church on Camden Ave is small enough so everyone knows your name, but large enough to have a sizeable junior sunday school program (called "Primary") and great youth activities and a large women's group focused on giving service to the community as well as hosting monthly activities. Singles are welcome though you might prefer attending the singles congegation at their other church at 5700 Comanche Dr at 1:00pm.All are welcome to worship here no matter whether you are Mormon or any other denomination. Dress is typically Sunday best - most women wear skirts/dresses though an occasional pair of dress slacks may be seen. There are two family worship services held in the chapel on Sunday (called sacrament meeting) at 9:00AM and 11:30AM and last about 1 hour. The Sacrament meeting is the principal meeting and it is where everyone (young and old) come together to have the sacrament (communion) and hear sermons by fellow church members. Visitors do not have to take the sacrament, but are allowed to, if they desire. The passing of the Sacrament is a the most important part of the meeting -- a time to reflect on Jesus Christ's atonement for our sins. There are hymns sung by everyone who wishes to join in. Since there is no paid clergy, members of the congregation take turns speaking on Sundays about how a particular principle or doctrine has strengthened their faith in Christ.(They do not pass a plate or request donations as part of the worship services.)Please note that the parking lot is in the back of the church so most everyone uses the back doors instead of the front doors! ...read more
