What You Need To Know Before Calling A Notary Public

What exactly does a Notary Public do? Good question. Most people are simply told they need a document notarized, but don't understand the different nuances of having their signature notarized. As a Notary Public we are commissioned by the State to act as third party impartial witnesses to your signing of a document. The individual signer must appear personally in front of the Notary, produce current unexpired I.D. that is acceptable to the State and make sure all blanks are filled in on the document. The purpose for the Notary Public is to let the issuing or receiving agency of the document know that the signer has been positively identified. We notarize signatures, not documents; therefore we not not concerned with the contents of the document, as long as there are no obvious blanks or if the document appears to be fraudulent, we would decline to notarize. California Notaries Public are under strict guidelines from the State. Many times individuals are not familiar with the type of notarization they need on the document. We as Notaries Public are not allowed to choose the type of notarization. There are two types of notarizations, Acknowledgments and Jurats. With an Acknowledgment the individual appears in front of the Notary, the Notary positively I.D. them and acknowledge they signed the document. A Jurat notarization requires you to appear in front of the Notary, be positively I.D.'d, you must sign in front of the Notary and be sworn to an oath or affirmation as to the truthfulness of the contents of the document. There are many documents that need to be notarized. Power of Attorney, real estate loan documents, passport applications, affidavits, deeds, retirement documents, settlements, divorce documents, etc. Call a professional Notary Public to handle important documents. ...read more

Frequently Asked Questions About Live Scan Fingerprinting

What is Live Scan Fingerprinting? Live Scan is an inkless electronic fingerprinting. Applicant fingerprints are electronically transmitted to the Department of Justice for completion of a criminal record check. The Live Scan technology replaces the process of recording fingerprint patterns through a rolling process using ink. Ink fingerprinting is still required in many states. Digitizing the fingerprint images enables service providers much like Certifix Live Scan to electronically transmit fingerprints to the Department of Justice in a matter of seconds, instead of the days required to send hard copy fingerprint cards through the mail. Additionally, the Department of Justice forwards Live Scan Fingerprints to the FBI (if required). We offer both live scan services and ink fingerprint card services, we are the largest California LiveScan provider; so take advantage of our many locations. Who Needs Live Scan Anyway? Real Estate Licensees, DMV Licensed Professionals, Notaries, Foster Parents, Teachers, Appraisers, Care Givers, Stock Brokers,Contractors, Nurses, Doctors, Surgeons, Security Guards, Volunteers, Lawyers, etc. What are the benefits of Live Scan? The Live Scan process helps in avoiding many of the problems associated with ink prints, such as smudging, smearing, and over or under inking. A major benefit of Live Scan is that your fingerprints are transmitted directly to the Department of Justice. The Department of Justice conducts a criminal background check, based on your fingerprints, results are sent within 24 to 48 hours to your employer or licensing agency. Background of Live Scan As a result of legislation passed in 1997, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has developed the automated background check process which requires digitized fingerprints ("Live Scan"). Digitizing the fingerprints enables the electronic transfer of fingerprint images to the DOJ, which saves both time and money. How Does the Process Work? A Trained and Certified Technician will scan your fingerprints using a Live Scan machine. The electronic fingerprinting session takes five to ten minutes and your prints are immediately sent via electronic transmission to the appropriate FBI-Certified channeling agencies for background processing. The technician collect all the appropriate fees from you (the live scan applicant). How to check your live scan results? To check for your fingerprint results, simply call the Department of Justice at (916) 227-4557. Make sure to have your birth date and ATI number available. The ATI number is on the bottom of the request for livescan form. The system will prompt you to type in the ATI number, for the letters type in the corresponding numbers.
