You need the certificate of title or "pinkslip" from the seller and a valid smog check (done within the prior 90 days).  The seller is ultimately responsible for the smog check. The owner of the certificate of title must sign the front of the title to release ownership and to certify current mileage on the vehicle (if required because the vehicle is less than 10 years old).   You can bring the title to our office and as long all paperwork is in order, we can transfer ownership of the vehicle and give you the new registration card in your name in a few minutes.  If you need the registration tag, or new plates, we can give them to you in minutes as well.
