Beach Blanket Babylon

By gypsy716 at Citysearch

I can't believe I've lived in the San Francisco Bay Area all my life and only this year got to see Beach Blanket Babylon. The only regret I have is that I didn't get to see this wild extravaganza any sooner. \t\n\t\nIf you're a fan of musical theater or even if you're not but enjoy a little friendly ribbing of current politics and events, you will thoroughly enjoy this show. I sat down and couldn't wipe the grin off my face the entire time. It is so funny and unique. There's nothing else quite like it and nowhere more appropriate to see it then in San Francisco. It's like a part of the city's personality and I can see now why it's played to packed houses for over 35 years. I would recommend to anyone who has ever set foot in San Francisco. ...read more

Sundance Kabuki

5.0

By Casi C at Citysearch

After sifting through many movie theatre reviews we chose the Sundance Kabuki Cinema in Japantown mostly because it gave us the choice to choose our seats online while we purchased our tickets. The reviews were great so we hopped on the bus and headed over for our 10:15p.m. showing of Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince. The reason choosing our own seats was so important was because of the massive lines we wanted to avoid from all the crazy Harry Potter mania. It was a good choice because it was nice to sit and relax with some hot Peet's Coffee in the comfortable seating area right outside our theater instead of freezing our butts off waiting in lines that extended around an entire theater building.\t\n\t\nThe seats were comfy and roomy (almost too comfy), the popcorn smelled amazing, there was a restaurant (which was closed at the time), the crowd was young, and the movie was awesome! We definitely will be coming back to this theater for our next movie. ...read more

Came here a while back (March) to see Alice in Wonderland. There was a giant line, so we sat around waiting to go inside. Once we were in, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the theatre was very large. Everyone was wearing their 3D glasses, munching on tasty movie popcorn, and enjoying an old classic remade. The movie was just OK, but I definitely like the theatre, especially since it is right next to a 38 bus stop. ...read more

Sundance Kabuki

Probably the best movie theater experience I will ever have. Never has going to a cinema felt so classy and entertaining. Everybody likes dressing up when they go and having a few glasses of wine while watching their favorite movies. I can't think of a better way to spend time at the movies. And the overall decor just adds to a completely different theater-going experience. So the experience is wonderful.. You don't feel like you're in a trashy cinema with popcorn all over the floor and sticky seats (ugh!) I suppose the only drawback is that the prices can be expensive. But this ironic revelation strikes you and you have to remind yourself that this is a movie theater, nothing's ever going to be cheap! Now I'm just waiting for the miraculous one day I'm waiting in line to buy a glass of red and I run into Mr. Redford himself. ...read more

Sundance Kabuki

It had been years since I had stepped foot inside the Kabuki. I was happy it had been updated w/ potted bamboo in the lobby, current food options & a bar that adds to it's Japanese theme. The food kiosk served Pete's coffee(happiness in a cup)w/ latte or mocha options. There is also a balcony bistro(2nd floor) where food can be taken into the balcont of Cinema #1 .)Of course, popcorn & snacks, along w/ movies run in foreign tongues.(I would watch Willy Wonka in Farsi) Also, Sundance films & documentaries. The theatre chairs are comfortable and you dont feel crowded. Guess I will be checking their times more often! ...read more

I have been selling the Nob Hill films to show in their\t\ntheatre and sending dancers to them on and off for\t\n40 years.\t\n\t\nI have always dealt with a theatre manager named Martin and have been treated with the most respect possible\t\nin this industry.\t\n\t\nThe theatre is kept as clean as possible, as are all the\t\nside rooms where the 'Action' takes place\t\n\t\nI was there when the theater opened in 1968 with a\t\nfilm from J Brian I had provided 'Seven in a Barn' and\t\nI will probably be there when it closes.\t\n\t\nIf your there, its not to see the grainy gay movies,\t\nbut the dancers can be fun. Check the billing before\t\nyou spend $30 to make sure there is someone you\t\nfind pleasing to the eye.\t\n\t\nFor whatever reason the dancers seem to be getting\t\nolder and less attractive.\t\n\t\nThe Nob Hill theater FOREVER! ...read more

I am going to start seeing all my movies at the Kabuki!\t\nAwesome things:\t\n1) It's a really nice quality theater.\t\n2) You reserve your seats in advance so you don't have to get there super early to get a good seat.\t\n3) They have really high quality food, and even better, booze, that you can purchase and bring inside.\t\n4) In between seats they have a table to put your stuff on.\t\n5) Seats are super comfy. ...read more

I adore this theater. Watched Wicked here a week ago and I was in love. The seats and the layout certainly was not as nice as some of the newer theater. The bathroom line was incredibly long. (Use the downstairs bathroom instead. Way less crowded.) The loge underbelly overshadow on the Orchestra was annoying. Even then my experience at this theater was still memorable. Maybe it was precisely the imperfections that made this place perfect. Just like everything else in life. After all, who could really love a perfect being? ...read more

Great seating and surround sound. You don't have to strain you neck to see over people and the seats are arranged in hill formation where it's comfortable no-strain on your neck to view the screen. If you go watch any action flick especially, you're absolutely bound to get your money's worth. Oh yes, have I mentioned it's only a block away from my house? Super convenient. ...read more
