As of June, 2012, the average consumer credit card debt in Hawaii was $7,032, representing a 3 percent decrease from May, however, clocking in as the second-largest amount in the nation, sources from CreditKarma.com state. Nationally, the average consumer credit card debt in June was $5,576. Only Alaska, with an average credit card debt of $7,076, was higher than Hawaii's average credit card debt, according to CreditKarma.com. Hawaii consumers had better credit scores than most states with an average of 678, compared to the national average of 655, the report said. But Hawaii residents also had the highest average home mortgage loan in the nation at $306,005. California was second-highest with an average home mortgage of $301,155, while the national average was $166,325. The average auto loan in Hawaii last month was $15,528, which was lower than the national average of $15,818 and a number of other states, including Wyoming, which topped the list with $19,762 in average auto debt. Student loan debt in Hawaii averaged $27,148 in June, compared to the national average of $29,390.
