We were very anxious about having a mold problem. Mr.Okin reassured us immediately with his clear explanation of what mold was all about, how he would proceed in testing and what the resulting information would mean. We were delighted when the results showed that our mold problem was very limited and could be cured easily and inexpensively. He worked neatly and efficiently, very professionally. We had had some water leaks in our house over the years and were concerned they could have caused mold. In addition, there have been Internet and TV coverage on mold and corresponding health issues that heightened our concern. The tests were done in a day or two and he walked us through the results so we understood exactly what they meant. When searching for an inspection or remediation company, be very wary of companies offering "free" or "low cost" inspections. These companies have a vested interest in identifying a problem that will require expensive remediation. This can also be true for companies that either offer inspections AND remediation, or an inspector that is affiliated with any remediation company because they might receive commissions from remediation companies. There are unfortunately many scams being run in the world of mold inspection, mainly because mold can be undetectable by site or smell. This opens the door for con artists who would love to say you have mold when you don't, or in some cases pretend to remove mold when there was none to begin with. Foreclosures Are through the Roof
I can't believe it but it has happened. My company does home inspections in San Diego and now foreclosure inspections represent about 40% of our business. Just last year I had a handful of realtor/investor types that I used to do inspections for who decided that they would move their foreclosures and forgo having a home inspection done in the process. I guess they figured they would try to save a few bucks in the process. Bad news for them in my opinion because I'm sure they purchased a few lemons in 2010. Move forward to 2011 and many of these investors are now back with me and I'm doing all of their home inspections on not only there residential projects but also their commercial projects. ...read more
