Ace Photo Inc

1.0

I was looking for a photo lab to cross process some 120 film for me. The usual place I use in Roseville "Snap Photo" wanted a ridiculous amount of money so I called Ace Photo in Sacramento. Their price was more reasonable. \t\n\t\nI went to Ace Photo and had 14 rolls of 120 film (168 photos) developed and scanned (only a few rolls were cross processed). The price was $145. \t\n\t\nI got home and looked at the digital scans and was very disappointed to see that the photos had many white specs throughout most of the photos. Many of the specs were in the exact same place on many of the photos which told me that their scanner must have been dirty and that was what I was seeing. I called Ace Photo and explained to them what I thought had happened. I was asked to bring the cd back so they could "touch up" the pictures.\t\n\t\nWhat I really wanted was new scans but I decided to let them "touch up" the photos and hope that they looked better. They touched up the photos and for the most part they looked allot better. The bigger distortions had been removed but many of the smaller ones remained. I didn't want to be overly excessive so I figured I'd let it slide. Later over the next few weeks, as I would look more closely at other photos I noticed some black thread looking distortions very clearly also from a dirty scanner. Also, the cross processed pictures all had a light black bar going down the left side of each photo. This made me very unhappy.\t\n\t\nOn top of the order I discussed above I brought in two rolls of 35mm film to be scanned. I had shot 35mm film in a 120 camera so that the pictures were wider than normal and had picture exposed around the sprocket holes. I asked if they could scan these negatives and include the sprocket holes in the scan and was told they could. The price was $40 for 10 photo scans.\t\n\t\nI got my scans back and the first roll looked exactly how it should have. The second roll however had a light brown discoloration around the edges. At that time I assumed that it was the film type I used for the second roll that caused the discoloration. I figured I would use the first film type the next time to avoid these distortions.\t\n\t\nAfter the horrible transfers of the 120 film I decided I would NEVER bring any more 120 film back to Ace Photo to be developed and scanned EVER again. I really regretted not spending the few extra bucks to go to Snap Photo and have it done right. However, since the sprocket hole 35mm scans seemed to go okay I figured I would use Ace Photo for that ONLY.\t\n\t\nSTORY CONTINUED BELOW... ...read more
