When coming to work for NYLB in 2010, I had no idea the impact that it would have on my life. My journey at NYLB began at the Power Inn/Elsie Way location, where I had the opportunity to oversee and manage the tutorial program and to oversee clerical staff. During that time, the attendance of our program tripled because of the love and care that Dr. Cooks displayed for the youth and the community at large. Dr. Cooks and his staff conducted a Mobile Home Raffle, where funds were raised donated to Susan G. Komen in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. In addition to that, Dr. Carroll and the tutorial program at NYLB held a Student Award Appreciation Dinner at the Red Lion Hotel, where Ruthie Bulton from the Sacramento Monarch presented awards to each student, teacher, and parent for their participation and partnership to the success of our students' learning. NYLB faced a small set back at the selling of our building on Power Inn/Elsie. However, this set back awarded Dr. Cooks an opportunity to continue the work of serving the community in the grassroots of Oak Park, where he has taken an old abandoned building and turned it into a state of the Art learning center for youth. As a staff member, who has worked very closely with Dr. Cooks, I can attest to his love and passion that he has for the betterment of the Youth. In my observation, his hardwork and dedication to launching "I CARE" is what drives him, and what will continue to drive him until the community as a whole take a stand and say "I CARE TOO."
