The most common calculation for figuring out how many yards a custumer will need for a slab or flatwork that is the standard of 4" inches thick, is ( length in feet x width in feet, divided by 79= yards required). In a perfect world, this would work. I always suggest to order an extra 1/2 to full yard to take into account variances in the grading, moisture content of the material used which will affect the volume of the concrete, and the out of tolorance factors of the batch plant.
