I am asked all the time, "When should the landscape lighting be done? After the landscaper is done?" The answer: BEFORE the landscaper is done! Why? Because to get the right level of light in the right place, the fixtures need to be in the right location. Many times when the lighting is done last, many of the plants are in the way, need to be moved, or the lighting is compromised. Installing the lighting after the structures, underground work, pool, etc. are done, gives you the best end result. Usually only a minor changes are made with the landscape plant material in order to work around the lighting. Landscape with lighting in mind is what I say!
