Chateau Pleasant Hill

1.0

By qwvrtys

My mother was a resident at Chateau Pleasant Hill. She was hospitalized May, 2013 for severe back pain after a fall. When she returned to The Chateau her pain medication was taken away from her, even though the discharge doctor ordered that she could have her "as needed" pain medication. Her personal physician had ordered a narcotic pain medication. She was instead given Tyelenol whenever she asked for medication for severe pain, being lied to that Tyelenol was the medication ordered for her. When her personal physician asked if her narcotic pain medication was being given he was also lied to, as the Chateau never filled the pain medication until 6 days after it was ordered directly with the Chateau pharmacist. She spent days in severe pain, while the pharmacy staff knew she was not being given appropriate pain medication. When the pharmacy supervisor was informed what was happening, she laughed. That is how concerned the Chateau is about the elderly people they are supposed to ...read more

Is it too late to get the Flu Shot? Is it really necessary?

The flu season is in full swing but it is never too late to get a flu shot. The vaccination can still be beneficial as long as influenza viruses are still around. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends getting vaccinated as soon as it is available in the fall. However, if you have not been vaccinated by Thanksgiving or later it can still be protective. Influenza is unpredictable and seasons can vary. Seasonal influenza disease usually peaks in January or February most years, but disease can occur as late as May. The best way to protect your family from influenza is by getting everyone in your household vaccinated. Even the healthiest person who has never had seasonal influenza is at risk and needs to be vaccinated. View our previous blog onflu seasonal trends and local San Jose information on where to get shotsand see local trends in the San Francisco Bay Area. Facts About Influenza According to the CDC, every year more than 200,000 individuals in the U.S. are hospitalized as a result of the flu and out of those, 36,000 die from complications. Influenza is the 8th leading cause of death in the United States among people of all ages. Even if you are not concerned about getting sick, think about those around you when considering getting vaccinated. Getting the flu shot will help contain the disease. Because you will be immune, you will spare those around you such as coworkers and family members from getting sick if you have been exposed. The flu is very easily transmitted. It only takes one sneeze to effectively propel numerous bacteria particles in the air up to 3 feet! Primary Caregivers If you are the primary caregiver of a family member or loved one, it is especially important for you to be vaccinated. A family member you are caring for may not ever leave the house, but if you become exposed prior to visiting, you have now exposed your loved one. It is especially important for people with compromised immune systems or certain underlying medical conditions, such as asthma, diabetes and heart disease to be protected from the flu. Influenza can worsen these conditions or cause serious complications in people who have them.  Senior Flu Shots For those seniors concerned with the cost associated with getting the flu shot, there is an option. Medicare Part B or a Medicare Part C plan covers one flu shot per flu season, usually in the fall or winter. Even if you get your flu shot after January 1, you may be covered for another immunization the next flu season the following fall even if the second shot is administered within the same calendar year as the first. Given that influenza immunization is such a simple and safe way to help protect your health and those around you, why not take advantage of it? You may be saving the life of someone you don't even know. Find aflu shot location near you. ...read more

Tis the Season of the Vampire Cough

By Van Allen Along with the anticipation of joyful times to be spent with family and friends during the approaching holidays, there also comes the ugly spectra of the flu season. Although we all are susceptible to contracting the flu it's the youngest and most senior of our citizens that are impacted the most severely. Helpful tips that will help prevent the spread of the flu are listed below: Vampire CoughAlways cover your mouth when coughing. Although you may not have a tissue, paper towel or handkerchief readily available, coughing into the crook of your arm, emulating the actions of a vampire raising its cloak, is also very effective. The helps prevent the spread what may be contagious droplets into the air. Take ActionContagion is like the domino effect. Once started it will continue from one to next to the next until there is a separation of contact. That separation coming in the form of all of us taking the responsibility not to spread our germs through the air. Take pride in your imitation of a vampire. Others will appreciate it. Flu ShotHighest on the list of prevention is that we all should be getting our flu shots. Hygiene Always cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze, as well as turning away from others. Wash your hands, often, with soap and water. Avoid touching your nose, mouth and eyes so that you don't spread germs. Try to avoid close contact with sick people or if you are sick, with others. Most important is that we all remember that it's our responsibility to help prevent the spread of the flu or any other illnesses. The children are our future and it's the senior citizens amongst us that had paved the way. We owe it to them…. And to each other.
