Julia Morgan School for Girls

5.0

By Kaveh R at Citysearch

We had two girls go through the school and had a great experience. Cannot recommend it enough. Just go to an information session and you will be impressed by the energy and vision of the school. I'd have my girls go there even if it were co-ed, based on the education alone, but by being a girls only middle school, they create something even more extraordinary, boosting the girls' confidence and sense of self. ...read more

Julia Morgan School for Girls

5.0

By ilana_d at Citysearch

My daughter graduated from Julia Morgan's 8th grade several years ago and had a fabulous experience. \t\n\t\nThe teachers are both inspired and inspiring -- they understand what makes girls tick, love their subject matter, and come up with really creative approaches to teaching. \t\n\t\nThe curriculum is interconnected in a way that makes it easy and exciting to make connections between subjects -- for instance, in one unit in 7th grade the girls learned about the middle ages in social studies, read a novel about Joan of Arc in English and then put on a mock trial of Joan, learned Gregorian chant in music, and made their own illuminated manuscripts in art. \t\n\t\nThere are units in financial literacy (how to create a household budget! balance your checkbook! stay out of credit card debt! write a business plan!) -- as well as an advisory program that addresses a lot of the tough social/developmental issues that face preteen girls.\t\n\t\nTaking boys out of the picture for three years gives them the space to be themselves rather than continually looking over their shoulder for guys' approval.\t\n\t\nThe girls come out of JMSG feeling confident in themselves, willing to speak their minds, and with strong academic skills to succeed in high school and college.\t\n\t\nI think back on how miserable middle school was for many of us, and wish there had been a place like JMSG back then. ...read more

FUTURE CALIFORNIA COLLEGE FUNDING WORKSHOPS

Just a quick note to remind you about next months college funding workshops, which, unfortunately, have become more pressing than ever thanks to recent events in the financial markets. More parents are uptight and stressed about how on earth they'll come up with the dough needed for college. No surprise, then, when I came across this statistic about returning college sophomores -hang on, this one might shock you (it blew me away!): Two out of three (67%) college sophomores go to a college that's DIFFERENT than the one they attended Freshman Year! In other words, only 1 out of 3 college sophomores attended the same college the year before! Equally unsuprising is the main reason given for this massive transferring - financial concerns. The biggest crime is that this can all be easily avoided. There is $137 Billion of financial aid in the federal system. There are 153 tax-strategies that directly apply to college funding that middle class and high income families, even millionaires, can use to cut their college costs by $5,000-$25,000 (actually the number is much bigger but you wouldn't believe me if I told you the average amount we save). So if you're choking with the idea of paying for one or more kids' college education, you should check out our free workshop, "How to Pay for College Without Going Broke or Raiding What's Left of Your Retirement Savings!". Dan and I have 5 scheduled nex month and they'll filled up quickly. Bring a friend while we still have seats. Till next time, Gerna and Dan College Planning Specialists 510-686-7979 office 510-405-8880 fax Bay Area College Planning Specialists ...read more
