What Everyone Was Talking About After Social Media Marketing World 2018 So this week I’m doing things a little differently. I’m recapping the top three lessons I learned fromSocial Media MarketingWorld, which was held in San Diego. To put things into practice, I decided to do this blog post in video format. But if you’re in a place where you can’t use speakers (e.g work), I’ve got you covered! The transcript from the video is below. So with sound or no sound, you’ll be able to refine your social media marketing chops either way. Enjoy! Transcript: Hey, what is up everyone? Alvaro here. So, I wanted to get here and talk to you about the top three lessons I learned at Social Media Marketing World, which I attended last week. Now, Social Media Marketing World is the largest Social Media conference in the world. It happens every single year, and it’s down in San Diego. It’s a beautiful convention center. I want to go over the main lessons we all learned there, so let’s get started. All right, so number one, video is going nowhere, and it’s only going to get bigger, which is actually one of the reasons why I wanted to do this blog post in this format. Video continues to increase in popularity on almost all platforms, and that’s even particularly true for live video. Live video will continue to grow and play an even more prominent role. A lot of people freaked out with the Facebook algorithm change that it was suppressing businesses; however, the algorithm still has a favorable weight on live video, and so the more live video you do the more you will be rewarded by the algorithm. Some of the top recommendations are to perhaps create a live video series, either monthly, or weekly. You can do that on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube. They all have live video options, and just in general post as much video as possible on all the platforms. People love consuming a video. They usually prefer that over text, and so video will only continue to rise. Number two is that bots are a real thing. Yes, bots sound a little spammy. They have a little bit of a negative connotation, but when done correctly they’re a valuable asset to any business. Now, I’m specifically talking about Facebook Messenger bots. Facebook Messenger is quickly becoming the most prominent and powerful messaging tool in the world. There’s over a billion monthly active users on Facebook Messenger, and people even say that they’d rather do business with someone that is on Facebook Messenger as opposed to call them, but handling messages all the time on Facebook Messenger can be overwhelming, right? You’re a busy entrepreneur. You have things to worry about. You can’t be on Facebook all day responding to messages, so what do you do? The answer is bots. Bots, when done correctly, can do all the work for you. Not only that, they can do it well, and actually improve the customer experience when they’re on your Facebook page. A lot of companies, such as ManyChat and Chatfuel, which are the two priority bot providers for Facebook, make it fairly simply in order for you to set up a bot. To get started with that, just do something simple, create an FAQ, or some resources that the bot can provide to people, and then later on once you get accustomed to the bot, you can start building some more complex funnels, integrating it into your Facebook Ads platform, and having people communicate with your bot on a weekly basis through either promotions, or newsletters that go out for your bot. Alright, number three, and that’s that relationship marketing will be more important now than ever. Now, don’t get me wrong, relationship marketing has always been important, but the reason it’s becoming even more important than ever before is because of the changes to Social Media platforms, platforms such as Facebook and Instagram, and in the future most likely things like Twitter and Pinterest, they’re going to favor consumer experience over marketer experience. Now, that upsets a lot of marketers, because it makes their job more difficult. I see it another way. There’s a saying, and this came from Mari Smith at the conference, “When marketers move in, members move out,” and that’s probably true. Marketers kind of tend to ruin the experience for a lot of people on a platform, because they get to salesy. They’re just constantly marketing, whereas marketing it shouldn’t be about making the sale, it should be about building a relationship. That’s really what the focus now needs to be for marketing moving forward, because the algorithm on Facebook, and Instagram, and other platforms in the future, including YouTube, they’re not going to favor marketers, they’re going to favor consumer experience. All right, so those are the three main takeaways from Social Media Marketing World. There was a lot to take away from the conference, but I feel by far those were the three main ones. I hope you like them. If you have any questions or comments, please post them on this blog post and, hopefully, in the future I’ll actually be able to make more video content like this. All right, bye.
