Stuart arrived within the 2 hour window we were given by the office, and at first I thought, "Who is this young kid?". But, once he introduced himself as the Son of the owner and talked with us briefly, his professionalism shown through. He asked us a few questions about our Air Conditioning unit and he was like a tornado, zipping here and there. He made sure to keep us informed at all times what he was doing and what tests he was running. My husband's a real gear head, so he followed Stuart around asking lots of questions. Stuart didn't mind, in fact, he kind of like it, teaching my husband a thing or two. Within about 20 minutes Stuart had our diagnosis and report. He told us that the unit was never installed properly, that he sees this all the time, where companies take short cuts and use old "Stove Pipe" duct in the attic. This does something with temperatures and what he called splits? He also informed us that the D. O. E. and. the E. P. A. , both, banned this type of duct several years ago. Telling us that current code required a "Wire Flex" type ductin that holds temperatures more true to what they should be when they leave the furnace, or air conditioning. He showed us the Exit Temperatures at the registers and we were only getting about 12° output. Stuart informed me that we should be getting about 20°. He also sat down with us and explained how much money it was actually costing us, Summer and Winter., by not installing this new duct. We went ahead and scheduled the duct replacement, as expensive as it was - including the required tests and permit. Afterward, even without being shown, we could tell that there was a Huge Difference. Not only was it colder, (we were getting 22° now), but it was so much quieter and the airflow was a lot stronger. We were actually spending about 35% more on our heating and cooling costs than necessary. And all because a company was either afraid to tell us for fear of losing the installation job, or, they really didn't know. I find the latter not believable. Thanks to Darrell's Heating and Air, and a really young looking guy named Stuart, we actually have the Hv/AC system that we thought we were getting before. We tried to go back to the installation company and have them correct their mistake, but, they were out of business... Of course. Darrell's Heating and Air, they'll tell you straight. Darrell started out as an Electrician, in 1974, while in the U. S. Marine Corps. (MOS 1141). Working as a Journeyman Electrician in Residential, Commercial and Industrial until 1987 where he entered into the HVAC Trade. Earning his Journey Level Certifications, EPA Certifications in Refrigeration, and many other certifications for factory training from TRANE, CARRIER, BRYANT among others. Training included Hi-Velocity Air Ducting in Alberta, Canada used in Historical buildings all over California. 2-Stage Heating technology, Variable Speed Motor Technology, L. P. Staging and Flex Pipe, high pressure gas line, Residential Retrofit, Light Commercial, 2 and 4 pipe High Rise Cooling Towers, Radiant and Oil Heating. Darrell holds other certificates of completion in*: Design Drawing, Masonry, Basic Carpentry, Welding - Oxyaceletene and Arc, Plumbing and Mathematics. *Certification program offered by Belleville Area College, Vocational Studies, 1979 - 1981, Belleville, Il. Outside interests include: Salt and fresh water, (catch and release), fishing. Flying small craft, fixed wing, aircraft - obtaining his private pilot's license in 1983 in Everett, WA.
