In this economy small businesses are looking for an edge in increasing profits by decreasing their expenses. One expense, I believe, that is taken for granted is the maintenance costs associated with fleets of vehicles. Many businesses do not use synthetic lubricants because they believe that the costs will not outweigh the benefits. There are many ways to utilize synthetic lubricants in vehicles and capitalize on the benefits that synthetics bring. By extending engine oil drain intervals will allow the business to keep the vehicle on the road longer and not have it in the shop getting an oil change. For example, if a company puts 125,000 miles on a vehicle in a year and changes their oil every 3000-5000 miles then their vehicle is out of service anywhere from 25-42 times in that year. That means that for a company that travels alot their vehicle is getting an oil change twice a month minimum. By extending the drain interval to 10,000 miles then their vehicle will be out of service 13 times a year (or monthly). This allows the company to service more customers instead of putting their vehicle in the shop. If this company extended their drain interval even further to 25,000 miles this would decrease their down time to 5 times a year or possibly even every quarter. Imagine how many more customers they could service now.By changing the oil less often allows the company to spend less on oil changes throughout the year. Imagine spending approximately $50* (7 quarts of oil, filter, and labor) per oil change 25-42 times a year that equates to an expense between $2100 to $1250 per year per vehicle. That may not be much to some but if a company has 20 vehicles than that's an annual expenses of up to $42,000 ($2100 times 20). By switching to a quality synthetic from AMSOIL a company could increase their interval and save money. To continue with the comparison, a company switches to a full synthetic oil that allows a 10,000 mile interval, could realize a decrease in annual costs even though it may cost more per oil change.Approximately $65** (7 quarts of AMSOIL XL, an AMSOIL Absolute Efficiency filter (both at wholesale prices) and labor) would give a company an oil change good for 10,000 miles. By spending this extra $15 the company's vehicle is out of service 13 times annually; which equates to an annual expense of $845 (13 times $65) per vehicle and for a fleet of 20 vehicles is $16,900 ($845 times 20 vehicles). This is an incredible savings over the course of a year. By changing to a 25,000 mile interval the company would see even more savings. Instead of 13 times out of service each year (with the 10,000 mile interval) a vehicle would only be out of service 5 times a year. The price of this change would be $75** (again 7 quarts of Signature Series oil, an AMSOIL Absolute Efficiency filter (both at wholesale prices) and labor). This translates into a cost of $375 ($75 times 5) per vehicle per year; for a fleet of 20 vehicles it is an annual cost of $7500 ($375 times 20 vehicles). These savings are before any other revenue generated from the vehicle(s) not being down and able to service customers.Also by extending drain intervals this would lower the costs associated with the disposal of the used oil. Longer drain intervals equals less used oil. This is another way a small business could decrease expenses.By using synthetic oil a company could actually see an increase in fuel mileage because the synthetic oil would allow the engine to run more efficiently.
