Today will be remembered by my friends and family as either the day I took control of my destiny, or the day I lost my mind! I guess their perspective on the matter will be decided based on one quantifiable measure--RESULTS! Today is the day I bid farewell to what had once been considered the last bastion of security in our economic environment - my state job. With threats of pay reduction to the Federal minimum wage if the budget isn't passed on time, and a 20% across the board wage cut, I decided that if there were a time to take a chance on myself, the time would be now. My anxiety level was nearly too high for driving as I left to turn in my letter of resignation. Was I making a mistake? What would people say? Can I really do this? 4 hours later, I was arranging what will be a series of shows held by the parents of a 24-member cheer squad; each of whom need to raise $1,000 to meet seasonal needs for their children's involvement on the team. Hosting a show with 6-8 friends in attendance will allow each parent (each parent who agrees to host a show) to make a dent in their obligation - (let's face it, jewelry sounds like a pretty cool fundraiser when you've been used to peddling wrapping paper and cookie dough!), This is going to enable me to gain a lot of exposure in a new geographical market and still make a bit after contributing a considerable share to their cause. It is so rewarding to think that I can both support my family and make a difference in the lives of others all at the same time. So this day, I find myself blessed, scared, excited, rewarded........and TIRED!!!! And I wouldn't want it any other way!
