Terani Law Firm

I first was referred to them from my friend who found them on yahoo and used them in the past. She had a good experience with them but only hired them on a simple misdemeanor case. So I was worreid that they wouldn't know how to handle my accussations which even though innocent, were much more serious. i got a consultation and spoke with them. I called back like 5 times before hiring them. i spoke to 3 other law firms. my case was only in the investigation stage and i got different strategies offered from the places i called. by far these guys were the most informative and really explained the process to me. I spoke with lead counsel and we strategized specifcially what direction we should take my defense. I spoke to Tom after hours and on the weekend when I got a call from an agent and I freaked out. After a few months I got a defferred adjudication deal which basically meant I keep my record clean as long as i do some BS service work and stay out of trouble. ...read more

I am extremely impressed with the professionalism and communication at Authority Tax Services. I have a very busy work schedule and don't have much time to get all of the paperwork together. They were very patient with me and even stayed late sometimes to accommodate me. I am in full compliance now with the IRS and my tax debt is finally a part of the past. Thanks for making me a priority! ...read more

When Terani law firm first told me that they would need to fully review my file before giving me specific answers I really thought it was BS because other lawyers were giving me legal advice left and right. But then I realized it actually makes sense. How can I lawyer tell me what's gonna happen without actually, I mean really reviewing the file and your evidence and case? So I decided to move forward and it was just an overall great experience. I thank them dearly. ...read more

YouTube Launches Copyright Match Tool
In response to continued criticism for failing to adequately prevent copyright infringement on its platform, YouTube has launched a tool designed to fight the issue. Known as the “Copyright Match” tool, the initiative is designed to identify re-uploads of a user’s content to other accounts. The uploaded video is first scanned and checked for similarities to other videos. Any such matches appear appropriately in the “matches” tab. Once a match has been identified, the user may choose to take no action, request YouTube remove the video, or take matters into their own hands by contacting the creator directly. When a removal request is submitted to YouTube, a 7-day delay is required to permit the alleged infringer to resolve the issue themselves. In announcing this launch, the video sharing platform emphasized the importance of ensuring exclusive ownership in the content prior to taking action. For instance, if the content is safely within the public domain or subject to fair use, the user should not file a takedown request nor contact the uploader directly. If successful, this initiative may prove to be a large step toward the longtime headache experienced by creators in policing stolen online content. #omnilegalgroup #copyright #youtube ...read more

Music Modernization Act Expected to Reform Music Licensing
The new Music Modernization Act combines provisions of four separate legislative initiatives into a single bill that is expected to reform the music licensing system. In particular, the Act proposes to create the Mechanical Licensing Collective (MLC), an independent not-for-profit organization selected by the Copyright Office. This licensing organization would create a publicly accessible database storing song ownership information and provide a blanket mechanical license for digital streaming. While there are currently other royalty collection societies for performance copyrights, such as ASCAP and BMI, there has never existed an organization that provides licenses for mechanical copyrights. Under the MLC regime, streaming companies would be required to provide a monthly usage report detailing the number of streams of each song in its repertoire and then pay royalties that would ultimately go to the publishers and songwriters. MLC would also allow unclaimed songs, that is, songs for which the mechanical copyright owner is unknown, to be recognized and claimed by publishers, facilitating proper payment of royalties. It has been estimated that the Music Modernization Act will result in significantly more royalties being paid to the rightful copyright owners. ...read more

Final Round Goes To VirnetX In Legal Battle With Apple
A jury in Eastern District of Texas recently ordered Apple to pay $502.6 million in damages for patent infringement. The claims were brought by VirnetX based on four patents related to powering iMessage, FaceTime, and other secure communications products. The decision ends an eight year long legal battle between Apple and VirnetX. The battle started back in 2010 when VirnetX filed a separate suit and ultimately was awarded roughly $440 million in damages. Originally founded by former engineers to develop security technology for the United States government, VirnetX has become a patent troll that primarily makes money from similar infringement lawsuits against other companies. The Nevada-based company owns a portfolio of 185 patents, 80 of which relate to secure messaging. Indeed, the company has consistently lost at least $10 million in revenue per year since 2013, suggesting its future success depends on the outcome of its lawsuits against Apple. It seems likely Apple will appeal this latest decision, especially in light of a recent ruling from the Patent Trial and Appeal Board finding VirnetX̢۪s patents invalid. ...read more
