Dr. Babak Azizzadeh, MD

5.0

By kimberly35 at Citysearch

Dr. Azizzadeh is amazing...I have been going to him for over two years and he is really a true artist. He specializes in faces, so that is his sole focus. He truly understands facial symmetry, proportions. In a city filled with Doctors who are overzealous and oftentimes go crazy "overworking" their patients, Dr. Azizzadeh is the first one who will say "no, you don't need it", before he will do anything that jeopardizes his reputation or makes you look "fake". I personally can attest that I have driven up from OC to see him in LA several times and drove home without having had anything done, because he told me "no". He truly cares about his patients and genuinely wants to do the right thing, and have the best possible results. I have been to many doctors over the years, especially for fillers, and Dr. A is an ACE at making you look NATURAL and preserving your youth as long as possible, without invasive surgery procedures. I trust him implicitly and will continue to see him for years to come! :) Edit - Delete ...read more

Diagnostic Testing for Varicose Veins and Spider Veins

Medical Testing for Varicose Veins and Spider Veins     Non-Invasive diagnostic tests for varicose veins and spider veins are painless and are perfectly safe. There are no scalpels, needles, or medications involved. Your tests will take about 30-45 minutes from start to finish.      Diagnostic studies are an essential part of the proper work-up when evaluating and treating venous disease.  You can only determine so much from a physical exam.  The doctor needs to determine if the deep veins are working well. He also needs to map out the extent of the varicose veins and determine which vein pathways are not working and which ones are working. Some of the questions that must be answered are: Is there any evidence of current blood clots (deep vein thrombosis)?  Is there any evidence of old blood clots? Does the patient have good alternative sources of circulation before the varicose veins are permanently removed?  Are the deep veins, the deep femoral and superficial femoral, functioning properly or are they incompetent (leaking) as well? Is the Greater Saphenous Vein (GSV) working well or is it responsible for much of the superficial vein disease? Is the Sapheno-femoral junction competent or not working?      Any trained, experienced vein specialist will always perform vein testing first before treating your varicose veins, and most of the time even if you have only superficial cosmetic spider veins.  You shouldNEVERhave varicose veins treated before an evaluation with Duplex Ultrasound.      In our practice, we have found that almost one third of the patients that presented with even very superficial cosmetic spider veins actually had other venous circulatory problems that would have been missed without proper testing. www.medrehab.com - Spider Vein and Varicose Vein Therapy in Los Angeles, CA          ...read more

Risk Factors for Varicose Veins

There are many reasons that you can develop varicose veins or spider veins in your legs.  The number one most important contributing factor is genetics.  If one parent has bad veins (varicose vein or spider veins) then the offspring are at a 50% risk for developing bad veins.  If both parents have bad veins then the offspring are at 90% risk for developing bad veins, too.   Causes and Risk Factors • Heredity• Obesity• Lack of exercise• Jobs requiring prolonged sitting orstanding• High-fat, low-fiber diet • Surgery or trauma • Infectious disease • Pregnancy • Use of hormone medication • Age over 40 ...read more

Varicose Veins/Spider Veins

What are Spider Veins and What are Varicose Veins? Spider veins and varicose veins are the same problem just to different degrees. In other words, they are both problems with bad veins of different sizes. Normally, veins carry deoxygenated (the oxygen has been used up) blood back up to the heart. Gravity tries to pull the blood back down but this is prevented through a system of one-way valves. When there is a weakness in the vein wall or a faulty valve, the valve stretches and no longer closes properly. This allows the blood to leak back down so the veins become filled with blood.  Blood doesn't flow normally, and can now cause pain, swelling, discoloration, even sores that won't heal.  Larger varicose veins can sometimes lead to blood clots and other problems. What types of vein problems does a phlebologist treat?    • Chronically swollen legs • Recurrent infections • Thrombophlebitis • Stasis eczema • Pregnancy-related problems • Non-healing leg sores • Deep Venous Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism How are Spider Veins and Varicose Veins treated? There are essentially only 3 options: Surgery for varicose veins Although surgery can stop the leakage of varicose veins and remove bad veins, most patients are reluctant to have surgery.  There are many risks with surgery including a one third chance of developing blood clots, a risk of bleeding and a risk of infection.  Surgery will also leave scars on the legs, sometimes very disfiguring.  There is also a risk with the general anesthesia that will be required for surgical ligation and stripping.  Surgery is the absolute last resort.  Only 1% of our patients need surgery. Sclerotherapy for spider veins and for varicose veins Most patients can be treated non-surgically, using the latest and safest improvements in technology. From the largest varicose veins to the tiniest spider veins, most problem veins today can be treated with sclerotherapy. Endovenous Laser Treatment(EVLT) for vericose veins When a large truncal varicose vein such as the Greater Saphenous Vein is involved, EVLT is the cutting edge procedure for treatment. Using laser technology now even the worst and largest veins can be treated on an outpatient basis 98% of the time. Closure (Radio Frequency Ablation) and Amubulatory Phlebectomy for varicose veins These are both options that are still available, but Closure was an excellent alternative to Ligation and Stripping (surgery) until EVLT.  EVLT is now a far superior treatment which is more comfortable and is able to treat a larger spectrum of vein disease.  Ambulatory phlebectomy is useful in limited situations where sclerotherapy is contraindicated (not safe or ineffective), such as large painful varicose veins on the foot and ankle bone. What is Sclerotherapy for Spider Veins?Sclerotherapy is a nonsurgical office procedure that can treat most diseased surface veins. A small amount of medicine is injected through a tiny little needle about the size of an eyelash. The medication stimulates your own body's natural healing factors to create a type of glue so that the vein walls stick together and are gradually reabsorbed by the body. Getting rid of these diseased veins actually improves the circulation and makes the legs healthier. Diagnosis before treatment of Spider Veins and Varicose Veins!Diagnosis starts with a careful history and a physical exam. Diagnostic Tests for varicose veins and spider veins are often needed to evaluate the extent of disease and to determine safety of treatment. For varicose veins it is mandatory; no one should treat a varicose vein with any treatment without diagnostic evaluation of the varicose vein. If treatment is indicated, each treatment takes between 15-60 minutes. The number of treatments depends on the severity of the problem. Discomfort after treatment is rare. Most of our patients (99%) leave our office and go directly back to work or to the gym. We recommend that patients walk as much as possible after each treatment.  You can even resume your normal low impact exercise program immediately Insurance Coverage for treating Varicose VeinsThe diagnosis and treatment of significant vein problems due to diseased veins are covered by most insurance companies. Spider veins are considered cosmetic veins and usually are not covered. Varicose veins can have medical significance and be covered by most commercial insurance plans. Our evaluation can usually tell whether diseased varicose veins are causing medically significant problems or whether the problem is strictly cosmetic.
