Printing and your design. The importance of branding.
We all have great marketing ideas. Media and print are necessary items for promoting a business or service. At OnPoint we have been helping business put there promotional ideas in print ready to hand out to potential clients. One thing we have learned is that having your design on file makes this whole project so much easier; Not only for the printer but for the customer. This in turn means savings. In this blog i would like to share a little tip with anyone who has print items for their business or services. #1. Work closely with your graphic designer. Get your logo and color scheme intergraded in the same form. Rather you are designing cards, post cards, posters, flyers etc. Make sure they all have the same look and feel. This helps your clients and potential clients remember you. This make you stand out and look professional. Anyone who puts time and effort in promoting their services will do a good job executing there services. #2.Once your designer completes your design. Keep that file some place safe. Designer will give you a file (PDF, JPEG, TIF, PNG etc. Keep it in your Documents, Desktop or H drive. If you lose this file, more than likely you will have to pay to recreate it for future use. Maybe not today or next week or next month. However let's say a year from now you need new flyers and post cards and you can't find that file. So you call your designer who created this file over a year ago. Well "Jo Blow" the designer does not do designing for a living anymore. He no longer owns a Mac or has the software. This means you have lost that design for good. Two things you need for a successful print design.1. Your logo&2. Your design. A lot of people think these two concepts are one in the same. Your logo will most likely be with you throughout the lifetime of your business, the design of your media will only incorporate your logo. Although we like out branding to stay uniform, logos do get updated and designs always need updating. Now that we know that logos and designs should be stored for future use in pdf or jpeg files (other files can also work). Calling the printer will be a breeze. Deeside what print item you need. Let's say a post card standard size 4 inch by 6 inch. Your printer will give you the requirements on the final size needed for your print item. Although your post card is 4 X 6 you will need a file a little bigger with what is called trim and safe zones. These are zones that will be needed as "cushion" during the cutting process. This keeps the printer from cutting any design or text off. So with a little resizing of your original design you will only pay for the actual printing. No need for design fees as you have already squared that away with your designer. If 1,000 post cards cost $70. You will only pay for this service. Otherwise you will be adding to this cost if your print file is missing, lost or misplace in your computer. ...read more

Networking and Social networking
Networking is a great way to get out there and tell everyone who you are and what you do. Mixers, breakfast networking events, open houses, ribbon cutting. They all work. However what happens when you have been to every mixer of you chamber, you have run out of open houses to attend. You have already met everyone in attendance to the monthly mixer.Well you have one of two options: One is stop attending, but who will promote you business locally. Two is broadening your horizons. Attend another chambers mixer. Sure this might mean you miss your own chambers monthly mixer. However think of all the new people you will meet. A whole new audience to hear your sales pitch or in some cases your "elevator speech"Make time to look around and find events that are just far enough to make the business profitable. Find you're surrounding cities and look up there web site. Look at their calendar and pick and choose who might have a good location, event relevant to your business, and schedule that works for you. Some morning events take place at 0700 am others at 1000 a.m. Mixers are held after work but some might be at 5:30 some might not get interesting until 6; 30.Whatever your options are, just keep in mind. You're supporting your community, your supporting yourself to make bold moves, and your keeping businesses united. We might be divided by chambers, chapters, counties etc...But we are all on the same boat. The networking boat that is heading towards more business, more leads and more productivity. So go out there and mix and mingle. ...read more
