On Saturday, December 6th, 2008, I came in to purchase a breathing treatment machine called a “Nebulizer” for my ailing 91 year old father. The pharmacist refused to sell me the machine unless I had a prescription from a doctor. I went back to my father’s board and care home and picked up the medicine that had been prescribed by a doctor and picked up at Walgreens on Friday, December 5th. The pharmacist said she still needed a “piece of paper” from a doctor authorizing the sale of the machine. I pointed to the prescription label on my father’s medicine and said “this represents a piece of paper from a doctor.” She threatened to kick me out of the store if I didn’t stop asking to purchase the machine. As I didn’t have any alternatives on a Saturday morning in south Huntington Beach, I stopped talking hoping that she would sell me the machine for my father. After a minute, she then realized I was correct and sold me the machine.
