What Items Do Drug Stores Sell?

A drug store, or pharmacy, is a store that primarily sells medical products. They also sell a variety of other consumer goods. In the United States, the first drug store is thought to have appeared as far back as the Revolutionary War. The international symbol of a Pharmacy is a mortar and pestle with the symbol "Rx."

Medical Products

All drug stores sell prescription and over-the-counter medicines. In addition, they sell medical supplies such as bandages and medical instruments like thermometers and syringes.

Beauty and Bath and Hygiene Products

Drug stores offer a wide selection of beauty and bath products. Popular cosmetic brands such as Cover Girl, Revlon and L'Oreal are just a few of the makeup manufacturers that sell their goods through this type of store. In addition to makeup, products such as toothpaste, soaps, shower gels and bubble baths and feminine hygiene products are all sold at drug stores.

Food

Almost all drug stores sell a selection of foods and snacks. While the prices for these goods may be higher than in a supermarket grocery store, the convenience of being able to buy food and medicine in the same store is one of several attractions which drive sales at drug stores.

Consumer Electronics & Supplies

Minor consumer electronics goods can be found at drug stores. This includes DVD players, small-screen televisions and MP3 players. In addition, batteries and blank CD & DVD media can be bought at most pharmacies.

Seasonal and Miscellaneous Goods

During holidays, people shopping at drug stores may find items such as Christmas lights, artificial trees, ornaments, holiday candies and other decorative items. In addition, certain drug stores may offer sweatshirts, t-shirts, socks and even books on a year-round basis.
