sad customer service/loyalty

Last night my husband and I went out to dinner at Outback on Bardstown Rd. We are sitting there talking, we were about to pay the check and all of a sudden I get splashed then I hear a CRASH! I am sprayed with ice-cold ""something"". I look at my husband and the front of his shirt is wet and he is wiping his face and hair. The lady behind him got it on the back of her neck but she wasn't really concerned about it. It was dripping out of my hair, my pants where wet as well as my shirt. It turned out to be iced-tea. There are defining moments in every situation where you can see the true nature of people. I am not one to stand up and make a scene and demand a free dinner for me and everyone else in the restaurant. That doesn't make it right. I did not even ask to speak to the manager. Why? Because at that moment there is a true test of how well a restaurant values their customers and I wanted to see what they would do on their own. It was an accident and I totally understand that. We weren't wearing chanel suits or anything. It happens. Our waiter came over and he just hovered around us trying to make light of the situation. Some other guy came over and asked us if we needed towels. I just had to laugh. The guy that spilled his tray on us just said he was sorry.
It turns out that if you don't make a fuss and are very understanding customers all you get is the offer of a free sundae (which we declined). Yep, you heard it here. This place values your loyalty so much that they offered us a whole sundae for spilling a pitcher of iced-tea on us. We both laughed. A free meal isn't really important to me nor would it make the situation right. It really all comes down to integrity. It's about the decisions you make when nobody is watching (or making a scene) that matter. I love moments like that. You can really see what people are all about. In this instance, they were all about the free sundae. What am I, 4?
We won't be going back.
