Wonderful school that nutures children in more than dance!

Nice School of Dance is a wonderful place for children to grow not only in dance but in character and self confidence. The waiting area is small, but no smaller than other studios in VA Bch. They have chosen to maximize their dance space. Target, farm fresh and other stores are close by so parents can run errands. The teachers care about the kids, they use positive reinforcement not punishment to motivate the kids. The fees are very reasonable for the area; costumes may be more than at other schools, but from September-June you spend less than at any schools I considered. I wonder if momof1234 spoke to the owner about the costume fee. I have found the owner to be very understanding and accommodating. It is very clearly stated that the studio follows the school schedule and planned breaks are posted routinely. As for absences from class, you are permitted to make them up at any time. They ask that it be in a class of the same age and level, which only makes sense. The recital is always the same weekend in June and again if you ask what the date is, they can tell you at registration time. Every place that serves the public is going to have issues and conflict that comes up, I feel it is how the owner and staff resolves the issues that matters. Nice School of Dance always takes a non-combative, understanding and compassionate stance. This is a great place for kids and adults to learn the joy of dancing.

good dance studio overall, but.....

I knew of the $60 costume fee for this years recital (up from 55 last year) but then received a phone call that there was an increase of $30, to bring it to 90. Costumes are beautiful, but that's too much for a costume that will be worn once, for about 4 minutes! And not being told the cost up front made me mad.\t\nAnd classes are cancelled if school is closed, or teacher goes out of town for holidays, but you still pay the same each month. I feel a little cheated. Overall, a great place to learn...but is it worth it? Also...the big recital is ALWAYS graduation/Father's Day weekend in June. Hard to make it there if you have siblings graduating from any high school in the area. Keep that in mind.

An amazing place to learn dance!

I've been dancing at this studio for several years now and I have nothing but great things to say about it! I do agree that the waiting area is very small and the classes are sometimes large but I would (and have) reccomend it to anyone. I started with just ballet, but i was enjoying the classes so much that i decided to take other classes. All the teachers have an understanding of dance and how to teach their students. They are so patient and are willing to take the time to make sure that you're learning. I'm so grateful for all the technique they've taught me. I've been sucessful in all my dancing endevors (auditions and such) becuase i've been prepared so well. I've never seen any favoritism within the studio. I'm so excitied for my fall classes, for this year and for many years to come!
