The city of Newburyport is located on on the Atlantic Ocean, at the mouth of the Merrimack River in Essex County, Massachusetts, in the Boston-Cambridge-Quincy metro area. In the 19th-century, it was known as a whaling and shipping center. Major attractions include the Custom House Maritime Museum and the Cushing House Museum & Garden.
