Springtime - thankfully! This has been a really long, hard winter for all of us and our cars. Bitter cold weather has really taken a toll on our car batteries, alternators, wipers and starters. All these potholes are destroying tires and vehicle suspension. It’s time to move on to the next season. Springtime to me means sunshine, warmer weather, outside activities and traveling. It’s time to get our cars in tip top shape, so we can enjoy the beautiful weather without worrying about our cars. I always hate waiting until its 90 degrees to discover my air conditioning doesn’t work or being on a trip and getting a flat tire. What kind of spring maintenance does your car require? It’s a great time to get your air conditioning, batteries, tires and wipers all checked. Do you need your oil changed? After this hard winter, it’s a good time to check the tie-rod ends and other suspension issues on our cars. Spring vehicle maintenance checklist: be prepared! 1. Inspect your windshield wipers. The chilly temperatures of winter can cause the rubber blades to lose their effectiveness. 2. Check the condition and level of your oil. If it’s been over 3,000 miles since your last oil change, it’s probably best just to do an oil and lube. The searing heat caused by summer driving is unkind to motor oils. If you live in a mild climate or will be towing a trailer, a higher viscosity oil might be necessary. 3. Evaluate your battery. Did you know that summer can actually be tougher on your battery than winter? We’ll inspect it for free, and install a new one for no charge. 4. See if your engine needs more coolant, and check its condition, too. You may need to add coolant or have a flush-and-fill performed. Trying to make it through summer with inadequate coolant is a recipe for a vehicle breakdown. 5. Speaking of keeping cool, test your air conditioning system. If it’s not providing enough cool air, you may need more refrigerant. Or, you might have a clogged condenser, leak, or loose drive belt. Regardless, it’s smart to fix this situation in spring before the peak heat of summer arrives. 6. Check your tire pressure. Wide temperature variations are common with changes of season and can cause your tires to lose pressure more quickly. Under-inflated tires don’t perform as well as properly inflated tires. It also decreases fuel mileage. Also, be sure to rotate your tires according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. 7. Monitor the tread on your tires. If they look worn, replace your tires before the heavy rains and reduced traction of summer comes along. 8. Determine if you need to replace any belts or hoses. Look for cracks, swelling, fraying or leakage. If something looks borderline, you should replace the belt or hose because summer’s heat and humidity will likely cause it to fail. Stop by and we can take a quick look at your belts and hoses, and recommend replacements as necessary. 9. Have your brakes checked. What season is it? A month of transmissions!  Seems like repair projects run in streaks!  September brought multiple transmission projects to complete - changing transmission filter&fluid and installing used transmissions. Depending on the vehicle, the search for a used transmission can be quite extensive, interesting and costly.  A used transmission usually costs between $250 - $1250 for one.  I was searching a new site because I couldn't locate a transmission locally for a customer and they wanted a used one vs a rebuilt one as the cost difference was extensive.  I couldn't believe the response I got.  I received like 50 emails and multiple phone calls for a hard to find transmission from all over the United States and Canada. The customer had one sent in from Minnesota and two weeks ago, I got that completed on a Honda Accord, A Chrysler 300M this week made it's debut and I'm currently attempting to locate one for a Ford Truck.   One of the best investments I've made was this transmission stand.  It helps extensively in the process of changing the transmission and saves the back!  A common mistake that happens a lot is using the wrong transmission fluid in your vehicle.  It's really important to make sure that the recommended manufacturer transmission fluid is used as it can seriously affect the way the vehicle performs and cause serious issues with the transmission. ...read more
