The Southeast Utah Group ofthe National Park Service (Arches andCanyonlandsNational Parksand Hovenweep andNaturalBridgesNational Monuments) is joining all national parks across the country in waiving entrance fees several days in 2014 as a way to encourage people to get outdoors and spend time with their friends and family in the national parks this year. Park visitors are reminded that the fee free designation applies to entrance fees only and does not affect fees for camping, reservations, tours or other special uses. Park entrance stations will have Interagency Senior and Annual Passes available for those who wish to purchase them. Also for 2014 Canyonlands National Park turns 50! Bates dedicated countless hours exploring and mapping Canyonlands diverse geology. His famous camping trips and cowboy cookouts helped persuade the country's decision makers that Canyonlands was worthy of national park status. OnSeptember 12, 1964, President Lyndon Johnson signed legislation creatingCanyonlandsNational Park. More history can be found in theMuseumofMoab. Collecting Fossils in Utah

Dinosaur and other vertebrate fossils require permits issued to accredited institution. The public at large may not collect dinosaur and vertebrate fossils. ON Bureau of Land Management Lands (BLM): Petrified wood and invertebrates are regulated at 25 pounds plus one piece per day with a maximum of 250 pounds for a calendar year. Collectors wishing to resell specimens must get a permit. ON Forest Service Lands: Rock, mineral and fossil collecting requires a permit. Collecting for personal use is, typically, a free permit. It enables the agency to specify varying rules for specific districts. ON State Lands: There is a fee for an annual rockhounding permit on State Lands. Like BLM, rock hounds may collect up to 25 pounds plus one piece per day to a 250 pound maximum for the year. Collection is forbidden in areas under state land leases unless permission is obtained from the lessee. This permit does not authorize collection in State Parks. NO Collecting in National Parks, Monuments, military or Indian reservations, dam sites or wildlife refuges. The Official Public Information by the Department of Natural Resources. It is nice to wander about looking at rocks. There is so much more to discover too. When doing so please apply theLeave No Trace principles. Walk on durable surfaces, in drainages, on established trails, slickrock/sandstone surfaces and avoid “Busting the Crust”. The clumpy dirt on the ground has a vital role. It caps the soil preventing shifting sand dunes like those in the Sahara. The cap is a mesh of plant life fixing nitrogen and can enable other plants to grow in the soil. The other plants are shelter or food for other desert life. What kind of fossils will be found in Utah? Here is a helpful documentUtah Fossils. Link to image below ...read more

Sorrel River Ranch Resort

WARNING!!! If you are planing to go to Sorrel River Resort, in Moab, Utah... my recommendation is DON'T. The owner Elizabeth Rad is a Con Artist, and is known to rip innocent people off, and she could care less who she hurts. Sorrel River Ranch might look nice, but it has a very untrustworthy Ownership & Management. The Resort Manager Justin Clark is on the property to do the ownership bidding, and he is as much a CON ARTIST as the owner is. Elizabeth Rad resides in New York, and from her perch, she directs her team of con artists. This is one place you don't want to go. She will charge you enormous prices, and when you get to your room, you will immediately now that you were ripped off! Oh, and there is a ZERO Money back policy. WOW, imagine that. So you are stuck just like I am. I got ripped off for over $8000.00 for a lousy trip to her so called resort. WARNING: DON'T GO TO SORREL RIVER RESORT. It is a major RIP OFF! ...read more
