Merril, We do not do tanning of hides ourselves but we do request that if we are making something for a customer out of their fur it be sent to a tannery that we use and that the hide be garment tanned, which as you probably know is much thinner and softer than a taxidermy tan. You can feel free to give us a call for the tannery information. We would make that mountain man hat but it would take about 3 to 4 badgers to create it. We charge $60.00 to create the hat out of someone elses fur and since it is badger we would have to have documentation of where the badger were trapped. We would also make the choppers out of coyote again the hides would have to be garment tanned by one of our tanneries and the cost would be $60.00 out of their own fur, we would also need 1 - 2 coyotes to create the choppers you are requesting. I am a taxidermist in the South Range area up towards Superior from you. I was wondering if you do any tanning of hides and I have a customer that would like a mountain man hat made out of badger. I have the tanned hides for the hat, but I was wondering about the time frame and cost to have it made. Also another was wanting a pair of coyote choppers made that come up close to your elbos.
