Often times I am asked what is needed to prepare taxes. Here is a list of basic documents needed to get started with a new client:
1.) Last years tax return2.) All W-2s if an employee3.) All 1099s for interest, dividends, contract income, etc.4.) All 1098s for interest paid.5.) SS#s or ITINs6.) A list of income and expenses for business along with details of the type of business, etc.7.) Investment statements with transaction details8.) A list of charities with dates, values and a description of what was given.This list is not meant to be all inclusive and varies based upon client activity.
