We're new to Phoenix and were pleasantly surprised to find Print Source One. They've done a great job providing direct mail lists and printing up our postcards. Doug is the owner and suggested that we use EDDM, Every Door Direct Mail, to save money on our postage. We did and it worked! We cut our costs and found 5 new customers within the first week. If you're looking for commercial printing in Phoenix, give them a try. ...read more

How to Choose the Right Web Designer

As the cost for graphic design and web authoring software has dropped, the number of "web designers" has exploded.  Sadly, simply possessing software doesn't make you a real web designer any more than owning a football makes you an NFL player – it takes a lot more than just owning the equipment. So, what's the best way to choose a web designer and separated the contenders from the pretenders? Here are 8 key areas of expertise to evaluate and a few questions that you should ask: Experience Ask to see the designer's portfolio of recent websites and request the names and phone numbers of those clients to discuss their satisfaction with the projects. If the designer has few websites or refuses to provided references, it's time to find someone a little more seasoned. Customer Service As you discuss your project, how responsive is the designer to your phone calls and e-mails? If they're too busy to return phone calls to a hot prospect, what type of service will they provide once you become a client? Look for a designer who returns all of your calls and e-mails in a reasonable period of time and addresses the questions or issues you have presented.  Full Service: Copywriting, SEO and Graphics How much experience do they have with copywriting, search engine optimization and creating original graphics. As you review their portfolio, read the copy carefully and ask yourself if you would be happy if this was your site? These elements are critical parts of every project and will make or break your pages. Look for a designer or firm that can do it all and can prove it? Time Line Ask your designer for a firm time line of site development. Basic websites can be built in a week or less, but sophisticated, higher end sites with custom graphics may take a month or longer to complete. Make sure your designer provides acceptable time lines that are realistic and achievable. Communication Skills As you interview the potential designer, how well do they communicate with you? Are there misunderstandings from the beginning or is there a real connection that exists? These intangibles can be extremely important and shouldn't be overlooked. Availability A key factor that is often overlooked is the availability of the designer. Find out if they are a full-time web professional or if this is a part-time business for them. I can't count the number of clients who have come to our company upset and completely frustrated because their former "web designer" couldn't be reached during normal business hours. Such unavailability make changes and updates a nightmare and puts your site at substantially risk if there is ever an issue with outage from the internet services provider. Specialty While not an absolute requirement, it is always a benefit to work with someone who has experience and insight into your industry. This can save a great deal of time and allow you to focus more on the website and less on explaining your perspective and objectives. Value In a competitive market with limited amounts of capital, the cost and value of every proposal should be carefully evaluated. In many situations, the lowest price isn't always the best value. It's not just what it will cost, but what you'll get for your investment. Remember that your website will be around for many years and that it can mean the difference between landing a big sale and coming in second place. By carefully evaluating your potential web designers with these criteria, you'll be able to objectively compare them and find the perfect partner to serve your needs. ...read more
