Having been in the financial services industry for over 13 years and in Lake Havasu for over 21; I have seen too many businesses get stuck in long term merchant contracts they were not aware of and made promises that weren't kept by an out of town or state representative who is never to be reachable again. I have seen businesses paying double and triple what they should be to lease an out of compliance machine! AND the one thing that I have seen the most is merchants that believe and trust that they are paying 1 single % rate to process their cards, for example 1.59% and $0.10. In actuality that rate is merely the qualified rate and consequently also very close to what they are charged by Visa, MC and Discover as a processor. Well any business person can see that there is no way they would even stay in business if they were not making any money. I feel the reason so many businesses here in Havasu have been burned by this highly competitive industry is because the representative "selling" this to them is not local. They do not have a stake in the success of the community and chances are, they will never have to face that customer again to answer all the questions they should have disclosed in the first place. If your business accepts credit cards, please do your bottom line a favor and ask yourself the following questions: (the best answer in at end of question) Do you know all 3 rates you are being charged? (most common rate structure) (Y) Know: Annual fee? PCI Compliance fee? Monthly fee? Statement Fee? (Y) When was the last time your processing company represented themselves by visiting your business? (ANYTIME) Can you call a local LHC number 24/7 and reach your representative? (Y) When you call the 24 hour customer service # (if there is one) do you consistently get the same group of people working in the same office location in the same city? (Y) Do you have a LIFETIME low rate/price guarantee? (Y) Are you stuck in lengthy contracts with hefty early termination fees? (N) I think you get my point; I could certainly go on. If you answered anything other than the answer provided you might want to re-evaluate your relationship with your processor and see how much money you could save and see what it is like to have a local rep at your beck and call if you ever need them. A rep who takes the time to explain everything to you so you are NEVER surprised.
