I had Benton out here to fix our airconditioning which was blowing only heat. My husband had changed out the thermostat and it still didnt work. Benton checked everything thoroughly at the thermostat wiring and on the roof fixing several problems that another ac company supposedly fixed in July. He explained everything to me, the programming of the thermostat, he showed me which parts that were bad that he replaced on the roof leaving me the old ones to show my husband. He also checked another wall unit in another room, advising me how to clean and check to see if it is draining correctly. I needed a hose fitting cut and brazed. It should be a 15 minute job. I called Benjamin Franklin Plumbing and told them exactly what needed to be done. They said it was a $59 service charge, plus the cost of doing the job. I asked for an estimate, but the lady on the phone said she couldn't give it to me. (This is total BS, because they could get someone who knows and I could get a reasonable estimate.) Regardless, I figured it couldn't cost all that much, being such a short and simple job. The guy got to my house and, first of all, said he didn't know if he had the parts. This was my first hint at their incompetence, since I had exactly described what needed to be done. Preying on the sick, old and infirm. Promising the unit will be repaired and when it wasn't he sent a employee who never actually looked at his work but told me for $400 they could work a little more. All the while it is 109 degrees and KW said it was working fine. ...read more
