Types of Commercial Roofing Tools

Commercial roofing projects can require a variety of different tools to complete. The primary factor that will determine which tools will be needed is the material being used to construct the roof. Since roofing materials comes in a variety of textures and degrees of strength, tools have been developed to make installation and removal easier.  

Tools for Removal

Before installing a new commercial roof, workers must first remove the previous roof. The tool of choice for this project is the crowbar. It is durable and versatile. Crowbars use leverage to amply force. As a result, a crowbar can be used to remove a wide variety of secured roofing materials. A crowbar can be used for hundreds of roofing projects before it will need to be replaced. Their durable and inexpensive nature makes them the most common tool used to remove a roof.

Tools for Installation

Depending on the roof being installed, workers will need tools to adequately secure the roof in place. Traditionally, the tools for this task have been a manual hammer and nails. However, advances in technology have produced new roofing materials and tools. Many metal roofs are now welded to the structure. This is in contrast to the traditional method of securing the metal roof with nails and bolts. Asphalt is another common roofing material that can require specialized tools. At a minimum, a mixing truck and pump systems are needed to work with this materials. If asphalt is allowed to settle, then it would quickly harden. To combat this problem, workers must quickly use any asphalt that has been removed from the mixing truck.
