Traffic School Requirements
Traffic safety school is an option given to drivers who have recently received a moving violation and had to attend court for the offense. Attending traffic safety school will prevent the offense from being on your permanent driving record. You can also attend traffic safety school to lower your auto insurance rates.
In order to take traffic safety school classes you will need to keep a few things in mind. If your classes are ordered by the court then you will want to be sure that the company that you choose to take your classes through is recognized by the court as an accredited agency. If you attend a school that is not recognized by the state, your attendance will not count and you will have to attend another set of classes from a place that is on the state's accepted list.
- To be eligible to receive a sentence of traffic safety school, you must have a fairly clean driving record. If it has been awhile since your last ticket the judge may order these classes to help you to not damage your driving record.
- Anyone who receives numerous driving violations in a short period of time is not eligible for traffic safety school as a sentence from the courts. These classes are for drivers who are pretty safe divers, and only have received one or two moving violations over a period of time.
- You will not qualify for traffic safety school if your crime was drug or alcohol related. Anyone who receives a charge of driving under the influence is not eligible to receive traffic safety school classes.
- Anyone who has had another citation in the last 12 months will not be eligible to receive traffic safety classes as a sentence.
- If you are charged with speeding in the amount of 25 miles or more you will not be eligible for traffic safety school.
If you are ordered to take traffic safety classes or if you take them for the insurance benefits, keep in mind that you have the choice of online classes as well. In the age of technology these classes are now being offered in a distance learning format. Always check to ensure that the place you choose is accredited by your state.
