Tips on Apartment Cleaning

Cleaning your house is one of those necessary evils in life. Even if you are enjoying apartment life, which usually means a little less space, cleaning is still a chore that requires doing. With a little motivation, organization and determination along with a few proven tips, apartment cleaning can move quickly and efficiently and you will still have time to your day.

Make a List

The first step to an efficient and timely cleaning requires some preparation and a lot of planning. Make a list, even an ongoing list; throughout the week note chores that need to be done on the big cleaning day. If your cleaning requires products that you do not have in the apartment, make a shopping list as well. Just make sure to do your shopping prior to cleaning day.

Prioritize Chores

Prioritize your chores in order of importance, such as taking out the trash (due to odors), cleaning out the refrigerator (again, and odor issue), and generally keeping things healthy and sanitary. Include in the first priority things and areas that make the biggest impact. For instance, if you expecting guests anytime soon concentrate efforts in areas that your guests will be entertained in.

Decide the Amount of Time Devoted to Each Chore

If you have lived on your own and cleaned your own home for any amount of time you can take of rough guess at how long it will take you to do each chore. Start with the chores that take the least amount of time. This gives you incentive to continue with bigger chores after breezing through many of the smaller ones.

Work From Top to Bottom

Began at the highest point in your apartment that needs cleaning. This could mean chandeliers and hanging lamps or brushing away cobwebs from the corners. The point is that dusting or cleaning doesn’t always mean you have trapped the dirt in your cleaning tool. Much of it will fall on lower surfaces and down to the floor. As you work your way down you will pick up the residue left from higher cleaning.

Clean At Least Every Week

The more often you clean the less effort you will have to put in at the next cleaning. Some chores can be done every couple of weeks or even on a monthly basis, such as cleaning out the refrigerator. General cleanup, dusting, vacuuming scouring the sinks and showers all should be done on a weekly basis. This will prevent a large buildup of dirt that requires a lot of effort to remove.
