Steps to Make a Ripping Effect When Auto Painting

You have put a great deal of time and money into your vehicle. It looks great and a new paint job will make it look even better. You know you want cool colors and a ripping effect would make the vehicle stand out and look unique. Here are the steps to make a ripping effect when auto painting.


  1. Paint the entire vehicle with basic primer paint.


  2. In the area you want to have the ripping effect, paint the color you want to show through the ripped area.


  3. Allow the paint to dry.


  4. Next, take auto body painter’s tape and cover the ripping effect area. Create the size and effect you want with the painter’s tape.


  5. Now, paint over the entire vehicle with the base paint. This will be the main color of your vehicle.


  6. After the paint has dried, carefully peel away the tape design.


  7. Then, take a lighter shade of color and paint around the edges of the design. This will help blend the main color with the ripping effect. If you would rather make the edges stand out more, then outline the design with a darker line of paint.


  8. Now, paint over the entire vehicle with several clear coats to protect your vehicle and you new ripping design.
