Porsche 912 Performance

German automobile manufacturer Porsche is known for its elite line of luxury sports cars. The Porsche 912 was a model of sports car that was produced from 1965 to 1969 and widely regarded for its high level of performance and relatively high fuel economy.

About the Porsche 912

The 912 was only in production for four years, but it made an impact in the luxury sports car world. The four-seater displayed the high level of performance that the Porsche brand is known for offering a quick and nimble driving experience with 102 SAE horsepower at 5,800 rpm and a fuel economy of up to 30 miles per gallon. This was made possible through the implementation of a uniquely designed petrol engine that offered a higher level of efficiency combined with the car's low relative weight and, because of its styling, a low level of drag. Compared with its successor, the 911, the Porsche 912 weighed about 250 pounds less.

Performance

The 912 featured a 356-based flat four-cylinder engine. With the 102 hp engine, it also offered 91 pound-feet of torque at 3,500 rpm. The mechanical design of the 912 had a rear-mounted engine with a five-speed gearbox. Driving wise, the 912 was not the absolute most powerful of its fleet, but it still offered impressive performance, especially for a car of its light weight and great fuel economy. It was capable of going from zero to 60 mph in 11.5 seconds with a top speed of 119 miles per hour. The 912 featured a set of 9.26 inch diameter front disc brakes and 9.6 inch diameter rear disc brakes which allowed the car to go from 60 mph to a stop in 160 feet and from 80 mph to a stop in 235 feet.
