Laptop Screen Replacement Instructions
If for one reason or another your laptop screen is damaged, that doesn't mean you have to replace your laptop. You can simply replace the laptop screen by following a few steps. With a replacement screen and a jeweler's screwdriver, you can complete this project in very little time.
What You'll Need:
- Jeweler’s screwdriver
- Remove the power cord for the laptop from the wall. You'll also want to remove the battery from the back of the laptop to avoid the risk of shock while working.
- Take off the screw covers that are around the face of the laptop screen. You'll need to use a small flat head jewelers screwdriver in order to complete this step. Depending on your model, the screw covers may have rubber dots, round plastic covers or hard plastic caps over the top of them.
- Remove each of the screws and place them in an area that you will be able to easily access them when you need to reassemble the unit. It's most helpful to lay the screws out in the same manner in which you removed them from the laptop screen.
- Gently remove the inner face from around the laptop screen. You'll need to use a jewelers screw in order to properly complete this step. When completing this step be cautious, as it is very easy to snap off the taps and damage the unit.
- Take out the screws that are holding the LCD panel in place. You'll also want to set the screws in a safe location. Disconnect the cables that are coming from the screen and going into the inverter and video card. Completely remove the old LCD screen.
- To install the new screen, plug the video card to the new screen and then into the inverter. Connect all of the screws securely, but not too tight. You'll also need to attach the screw covers as well.
- Insert the battery back into the laptop. Power the laptop back on and ensure that the new screen is functioning properly.
